Hawkeye thought about everything that had happened with Kellye and what an ass he'd been. There was no other way to put it. He had overlooked her and all of her qualities for no good reason than he had been too busy scouting out all of the blondes that passed through camp. He shuddered to think what that made him and what Kellye must have thought of him. He completely deserved the tongue-lashing she gave him earlier and then some; he just wished that Margaret wasn't privy to it of all people. She would be sure to inquire further into it but that was another matter for another day. All that mattered was that he set this right.

So he donned his tux- a nice touch if he said so himself- and picked some flowers. Start out with a subtle touch-in his experience the ladies always loved that. Hawkeye was thinking rapidly. He was nervous, why was he nervous? He'd gone out with plenty of women before. Did he really care that much what one woman thought?

Just as he was ready to knock on her tent Kellye walked out.

"She's not here."

"Who's not here?"

"My roommate. That's why you're here isn't it?"

Hawkeye laughed nervously. "No. I'm here to see you. Here- these are for you." He presented her with the flowers.

"Oh thank you," she grinned before looking at him suspiciously. "Can I help you?"

"Can I come in? Would that be okay?"

"Okay. Why not?" Kellye let him in and they both sat down.

"Hawkeye why are you here? I don't understand?"

"I don't even understand myself. I am frustrated with myself for not noticing you sooner. All of those things you said about me were right. I can be shallow and conceited. I do go for the blondest nurse in the room. I don't take the time to get to know someone's qualities that make them special. I don't give women…"

"Like me…"

"That's not what I was going to say. I was going to say that I don't give women with the qualities that are most important to me a chance just because they don't come packaged a certain way. And for the record Kellye I like the way you're packaged."

"Gee you make me sound like procecessed meat."

"For a guy with a way with words I'm sure striking out tonight,"

"It's okay Hawkeye, I know what you're saying. And I think it's swell that you're having a change of heart. I'm glad I played a part in it. I hope that when you start dating these other nurses you'll keep this in mind," Kellye smiled.

"Other nurses?"

"Yeah your flavor of the month."

"Oh yeah. About that. I was thinking, Kellye… that you and I could give us a shot. You know… I would really like to get to know you better. I've really got to thank you for so many things and I've seen a whole different side of you that I'd like to know better. What do you say?" Hawkeye asked expectantly.

Kellye smiled. "I'd like that. "

And they sealed their deal with a kiss, the first of many more to come. They took it slowly but Hawkeye found that he had been wrong about Kellye and for once he liked to have been wrong after all.
