For Edward Elric, things were always difficult. Running around the world trying to find the philosopher's stone and trying to get their bodies back wasn't an easy task…but it would be a heck of lot easier if he didn't have to deal with this kind of stress. Before him he saw that the Colonel was sleeping, head resting on a stack of unfinished paperwork…

Ugh! Riza was gonna kill him! She'd specifically asked Ed to keep an eye on Roy and make sure his work got done while she was too busy. And now he came back to this, not only was Roy slacking…which wasn't all that unusual, but the dumbass had the audacity to fricken sleep on them!

He sighed and slumped into a chair, normally he wouldn't care if Roy did his work if he wasn't gonna get bullet holes in his ass too. Al was still in the library, waiting for him to pick him up so they could head back to the military dorms…but Ed didn't feel ready to go yet. He wanted to savor the quiet, which is exactly why he hadn't woken Roy yet…The Bastard never could keep his gob shut!

He grinned a little, picturing Riza waking him with the sound of pistol rounds being fired, of course neither she or Ed would really want Roy hurt…but scared was fine. It made Ed pause for a moment, he really didn't want Roy hurt…it was funny that such a normal thought could shake him up so much…but it was hard for Ed even to admit that he sorta liked the Colonel. Mostly because the arrogant prick liked to pretend he was his father…

Ed looked down at his boots, his thought betrayed him embarrassedly…that sometimes he liked to pretend it too…It was hard for him to even admit it to himself…which is why he always tried to jerk Roy's chain (that and it was just plain fun), but also to feel as if he wasn't betraying everything he'd ever believed in.

He'd hated his father ever since he realized that Hohenheim wasn't coming back home. He'd hated the feeling that he and his mother and brother weren't good enough for the bastard to stick around for…and it just hurt…that the man they all loved and adored…could just walk away…that they were disposable...Like garbage.

So the idea that Roy could be his father, it shook him…made him want to scream and rant and rave, but it was wonderful and easy to imagine. Roy (once you got past the snide remarks) was a caring and fun guy to be around. And despite his goals and life…Ed knew that he would never leave him the way Hohenheim did. He'd proved it over and over by being there when Hohenheim wasn't.

So yes…in a way Roy could be his father, where as Riza…Oh god where to start? She was a trigger-happy, secretarial, sharp-shooting, nazi…but she had the most gentle heart he'd ever known…besides his real mother. But a certain amount of just plain 'badass' his mother had never possessed. He did love it here, and to picture them all together…it was easy.

Ed smiled a little at the thought. Relishing it, however short it was, before his subconscious fears overruled the idea of parental companionship…And as if the Universe had read his mind and agreed with him he jumped at the familiar sound of a pistol being cocked. He had no time to react or give any real warning when a shot was fired and Roy started, hands up in a show of surrender, obviously used to these alarms.

And as Ed had predicted, it was fricken funny to watch. The suave elegant Colonel startled out of his innocent, drool-covered slumber into a immediate surrender was priceless. Ed let out a sharp laugh in amusement…

That is until a shot was fired his way as well.

They say you can't choose your family; you just make the best with what you got. Well, Ed was pretty happy thus far…

Plz tell me what you think! ^_^
