Dave Karofsky walked through the halls of McKinley high after hours. He was on his way to the choir room to audition. No one knew he was going too, not even himself up until a few minutes before, but Glee club was the only place he felt special, even if only for that little while he was there. And it wouldn't hurt that Kurt might be impressed.
He heard the voices of Finn Hudson and Rachel Berry waft towards him, they were singing some sappy love duet but, instead of wanting to hurl, he just jigged along until he reached the door.
He took a deep breath.
He knocked on the door and walked in, braced for the looks of fear, disgust, shock and anger that decorated each of their faces.
"What the hell are you doing here Karofsky!" Finn spat at him, now finished with his song.
"I-I'd..." Damn, he cursed himself, stop stuttering. "I'd like to audition for Glee clu-"He was cut off by Santana.
"You what! You are not joining Glee! Get lost as-"
"Santana! Stop! Now!" Mr Schue stepped in. "If David wants to join Glee club he can!"
"No he can't!" Berry was screaming now, "He is the reason Kurt left! He has bullied each and every one of us for years! He cannot join Glee club! You have broken each and every one of us! Go back to your jock friends Karofsky!"
Dave thought back to a thing he read on the internet.
Sometimes, all you can do is hold on, no matter how painful it's going to be, because you know it's more painful when you lose it.
Without Glee he would lose it, especially the way he was going.
He cut the screaming match off abruptly.
"Do you ever wonder why I'm laughing with a group of friends one second, but two seconds later I have a distant look in my eyes, three seconds later I have no track of the conversation, four seconds later I wish I was anywhere but there, five seconds later I'm forcing the smile back on my face pretending I know what's going on, when really I'm too caught up with all the thoughts in my broken head." His voice was barely above a whisper but he was sure they all heard.
"What?" Puckerman asked curiously, with just a hint of bitterness.
Dave repeated his earlier thoughts out loud, "Sometimes, all you can do is hold on, no matter how painful it's gonna be, because you know it's more painful when you lose it..." Dave thought back to one of the reasons he wanted to join, "lose him..." he sighed and realised all of their shocked faces. Probably shocked at the fact he said something deep and poetic.
"You know what, fuck it, fuck you, if you don't want me here, I don't wanna be here." He walked out leaving twelve extremely shocked Gleeks in his wake.
Dave Karofsky walked through the halls of McKinley high after hour, and cried. He wasn't wanted anywhere, or by anyone.
Sometimes you have to let go, and it's too painful for you to bear.
