If there was one thing that Arthur was happy that did not exist in Atlantis, it would be bubble gum.

People seemed to always be chewing it, popping it, and generally being annoying with it. They blew bubbles. They left it on the bottoms of chairs and desks. They spat it on the ground, where some poor unsuspecting person would surely step in it.

Squelch.

Like just now.

"What is wrong, my Liege?" Kaldur asked, having stopped when Aquaman did.

"Nothing's wrong. I just stepped in some gum."

After trying and failing three times to remove the vile pink substance from the bottom of his boot, he was finally successful on the fourth try.

"Bubble gum is awful," Arthur stated once the duo resumed walking.

"Whatever you say, my King."

"I mean it. It tastes awful, has no nutritional value, and is indigestible, so kids have to spit it out."

"Yes, Your Majesty." Kaldur was tiring of this line of talk, but it seemed the King of Atlantis was on his soap box. When that happened, it was always best to just nod and move along.

"Kaldur, this is selfish of me, but I want you to make me a promise," Arthur had stopped walking and turned toward Aqualad.

"Anything, Your Grace." Kaldur was honored.

Arthur looked serious; his jaw clenched tight in surely the gravity of what he would next say. "I want you to promise me that you'll never chew bubble gum."

Kaldur fought hard not to face palm; but still, it was a request of the king—one that he was obligated to fulfill. "Of course, Your Highness."

"Good! Now let's hurry on to the Mountain or we might miss the game." Arthur smiled winningly, the air of seriousness completely gone.

Kaldur merely smiled and continued at a sedate pace. His king could be very…childish at times. It was moments like these that he missed the most.
