The Shining Prince and His Ugly Princess

For the longest time, Yoshida knew his looks were considered less-than-pleasing to the eyes. He didn't know to what extent, nor did he want to know. He was satisfied with the thought that his looks were average at best. He had little to offer physically, and that was that.

Being with Satou was contradictory for Yoshida.

Satou was handsome and charming. It was no wonder that the girls, and Yoshida himself, found themselves under his spell. But the one who Satou fell in love with, Yoshida, was considered ugly. Yoshida had almond-shaped eyes, wide and unsettling. Untidy tufts of hair overtook his head. His build was scrawny, stubby, and his voice was shrill like a blaring alarm clock. In the eyes of the girls of their school, Yoshida had to be more closely related to monkeys than humans. And because of that, he didn't "belong" with Satou. Even though Satou loved him. Even though he loved Satou back.

In all honesty, Yoshida could see the girls' point. It was a sad, curious thing. Satou embodied all the expectations of an idol. He had displayed athletic and academic ability through test scores and sports tournaments. He had the smile of a prince and the croon to match. Loved by girls, envied by boys - it was strange that Satou loved Yoshida like an equal, when Yoshida was so "ugly". Yoshida looked strange beside him. They were too different.

But Yoshida found something else stranger. Something that canceled out the ridicule of others and made him blush at the thought of admitting it aloud.

Satou made him feel special. He made Yoshida feel like a treasure that no one else could see, or had the right to do so, and he adored him accordingly.

Yoshida wasn't sure what made Satou love him so much. He knew it wasn't exactly his overflowing charisma or dashing looks, but then again… didn't he feel the same way towards Satou? Angelic publically, devilish privately – Satou was Satou and he loved Satou the way he was, too. And when it came down to it, that was enough for the both of them.

A/N: My first attempt at an AnD fic. I guess it's kind of an introspective Yoshida-centric thing? Hope you enjoyed~
