Disclaimer: I don't own Queen of Swords, I just like to play in their sandbox.

Helm walked out of his office. He had to get away for awhile. He turned the corner and saw Tessa Alvarado leaning against the wall. He was going to turn around when he saw that she was crying.

"Senorita?" he said softly, walking up to her. "Are you alright?"

"Doctor!" she said, standing up straighter and wiping her face. "I'm sorry."

"What's wrong, Senorita?" he asked.

"It's nothing." She told him.

He hesitated for a moment before nodding.

"Well, if you need anything, I'm at your service." He told her. "Good day, Senorita."

He turned and started to walk away.

"Doctor." Tessa called after him.

Helm stopped and she walked to him.

"What do you know of my father's death?" she asked.

Helm was surprised by her question.

"Not much." He replied. "Just what I've heard around town."

He didn't mention that most of it had been the answers to questions about her.

"He had an accident, right?" he continued.

"That is the official story, yes." Tessa said, nodding. "My uncle believes differently."

"What do you believe?" he asked.

Tessa looked at him, surprised.

"I don't know what I believe." She said softly. "I know I believe Don Ricardo when he says he didn't kill Papa." A tear slipped down her cheek. "I know I believe my uncle when he says he no longer has a niece."

"Why, did he say that?" Helm asked.

She nodded, more tears slipping down her face.

"I'm afraid he's going to get hurt looking for Papa's killer." She told him. "He says that I don't care about catching my father's killers. But I don't think I can lose him too!"

"You can't stop him from doing what he needs to do." Helm told her. "You just have to hope he'll be alright."

Tessa nodded.

"He wants me to go back to Madrid." She said softly. "He wants me to get married."

Helm froze.

"What do you want?" he asked, just as softly.

She looked into his eyes and he felt a jolt of realization, but then it was gone.

"I want to be happy." She told him. "And I don't think I can be that in Madrid. Not anymore."

"Can you be happy here?" he asked.

Tessa studied him for a moment.

"I think I might be able to be, yes." She said. "But my uncle will still want me to get married and he doesn't think there's anyone suitable."

"Really?" Helm said, looking away. "That's too bad."

"I think he might be wrong." Tessa said.

Helm looked back at her, but she was looking at the ground.

"I guess it's a moot point." She said. "If I'm not his niece, he may take my hacienda and I will have no choice but to go back to Spain."

"I'm sure there are those who would be willing to help you stay." Helm told her. "If you wanted to, that is."

She nodded and took a deep breath.

"Thank you, Doctor." She told him.

"For what?" he asked.

Tessa smiled softly.

"For listening." She replied.

She nodded to him before moving off down the road. Helm was suddenly reminded of something the Queen had once told him.

"There's more to Tessa Alvarado than meets the eye."

"You may be right, your majesty." He said softly, watching her turn the corner.

He stuffed his hands into his pocket and moved off in the other direction.

A/N: Just a little missing scene from The Uncle. Let me know what you thought.
