AN: This is Alanna telling Aly a bedtime story. The names are changed so Aly won't realize who Alanna's talking about immediately.

"Mommy, I can't sleep," Alanna heard four-year-olds Aly's soft voice.

"Alright," Alanna said, pulling herself from bed, "Why don't I tell you a story."

She took the four-year-old back to her room and arranged her in her bed. "This story is about a girl who wants to be a knight, and pretends she's a boy to do it."

"Like you Mama?"

"Yes Aly, exactly like me."

Alan glared at her father. "I don't see why I can't." she pouted.

"Because you're a girl. Now get out of my sight. You too Thomas."

"That's horrible Mommy. Daddy would never do that, would he?"

"No Aly, he wouldn't. Daddy is nice."

"What happened Alan?" Thom asked her as she came out of the study.

"He said no," Alan said, "But I have a plan."

"Alan, is this one going to be insane too?"

"But of course. Do you want to hear it or not?"

"Go ahead," Thomas sighed.

"Good," Alan glared, "We switch. You pretend to be me when we leave and go to the convent. They train young men to be sorcerers before sending them off to the priests. And I'll go to the palace. I'll pretend to be a boy. Then I'll be a knight and you can do anything you want."

"But what about Caude and Moram? They can tell us apart."

"Caude we can magic, and maybe Moram will help us."

I'll skip ahead now, to where Alan is at the Palace. She's just washed up and is ready to go out and try her disguise.

"Hey, farmer's boy. I'm Ralon, now until you've proved your worth, you'll call me Lord Ralon. Got it?"

"I'd sooner kiss a pig. Is that what you've been doing? Kissing pigs? Or being kissed?"

Alanna looked over at her daughter and saw that she'd fell asleep. She tucked her daughter in, smiling, and went back to bed.

Review and Alanna'll continue the story tomorrow!
