Emily Gold will forever haunt Chris Harte. He'll never move on. Sure he'll try; go out with other girls and have a few one night stands, but none of them will ever come close to being Emily. The memories will be engraved in his senses always.
He'd wake up in a cold sweat, screaming after a nightmare. They were always the same. A soft breeze blowing through the air and carousel music playing softly in the background. Then the bullet shot and he'd watch Emily's body fall slack in his embrace.
At the mall, he'd be out with his mom or Kate. They'd walk through a store and a whiff of Emily's favorite perfume or shampoo would surround him. Break downs like the ones he'd get from those moments were what kept the town knowing he was still there and not just the emotionless ghost he acts like most often.
Even when he was just lying around at home he'd think of her. See her walk around the corner and call out to him. Her laugh would drift through his mind every once and a while. The toxic smell of her paints, the sounds of her voice. He was going insane.
Five years after that night, on the same day Chris drove out to the old carousel. A million memories came flying at him. The first time they made love together. The summer nights when they'd sneak out and spin around and around on the machine. Emily's last words, her last breath, her last night, and her last time. As he sunk down to the ground, he cradled the gun in his hands and started at it. It was the same gun that they used to finish Emily. The bullet inside it was the same one he had brought for himself, just incase he did decided to finish himself off along with her. Chris pressed the mouth of the gun against his temple and took one last long deep breath. "I'll see you soon, Em."
And then there was a shot.
