SPOILER ALERT: This story is based on something that happened in Midnight Sun.
BRIEF SUMMARY FROM MIDNIGHT SUN: Jasper was adamant about killing Bella in Midnight Sun for fear that she would expose them and in the processes put Alice in danger. Alice talks him out of killing her when she informs him that Bella is going to be her best friend. However she expresses to Edward that if he leaves Jasper still might kill her if he feels that Bella is truly a threat.

Carlisle sighed heavily as he walked out the back door watching Jasper with careful eyes. Carlisle came to a stop at his side as Jasper turned cocking an eyebrow as his emotions. "I really do appreciate you not going after Bella," Carlisle said with a smile.
"Alice makes it hard to say no," Jasper said as he turned to look out over the backyard. "But make no mistake," he continued in a tight voice. "If that girl gives me any reason to think she will expose us, I have no problem killing her."
Carlisle's smile quickly fell as he began to shift uncomfortably "Alice has seemed to form quite an attachment to Bella."
Jasper turned back to face him with a smirk as he eyebrows shot up in disbelief "I hardly expected you to play dirty Carlisle."
"I only hope to keep an innocence's blood from being spilled."
"And I have told you she is safe, for now."
"I worry you will take any reason to kill Bella, you made it quite clear this afternoon where you stood on the matter when you refused to sit down at the table. You were above and beyond any decision the family came to-" Carlisle paused and held up his hand when Jasper moved to interrupt, silently asking him to wait. "And I don't look down on you for that Jasper. You understand how the Volturi work better than the rest of the family and your first priority should be to your mate. I sincerely hope though you will not see what you want to see in order to validate killing Bella."
"I will try to remain as impartial as I can, but I will not stand by simply because of Edwards' infatuation with the girl and risk putting Alice in danger."
"Would you kill Edward too," Carlisle asked with a tight throat.
Jasper shifted uncomfortably as he moved to stare out over the backyard unable to look him in the eye. "I don't want to have to kill him, but I can't promise his safety if he is willing to protect the girl with his life." He turned to look at Carlisle sadly, "I am sorry Carlisle, you have been terrific to Alice and I and I would hate to do something so devastating to the family, but I will do what I have to, to keep Alice safe and at the end of the day I have no regrets about that." Jasper turned away stepping down off the porch and moved towards the forest clearly done with the conversation.
Carlisle watched him go without any intent to stop him as he sent up every prayer he knew that Bella would remain safe.
