A/N: This is my first story so be nice! I know it sucks but I hope you like it. :)
Never a Fairytale
Once upon a time, in a land right around the corner, there lived a normal girl named Clare. Her mother always told her that she was a beautiful princess; she knew that her mother had to tell her that though, she was her mother. She was sitting at her desk finishing her geometry homework, or attempting to at least. Her desk was situated by the window so she could see clearly across the street to the park. Eli, the most obnoxious person in the universe, was standing under a tree with his friends. "If I'm a princess then Eli is a dragon and this dinky apartment that we live in is a castle." Clare thought sardonically. Eli walked over to a hot dog cart and bought one with chili and cheese on it.
"Oh, and now he'll have the fiery breath to match." She sighed and gave up on her homework. "Great now I'm talking to myself and borderline stalking that wannabe prince and mom's yelling at me to go to the deli around the corner and buy milk because I'll apparently want cereal in the morning." Clare was walking down the street when Eli and his best friend Adam turned and started walking in her direction. She rushed into the deli and bought some milk and a packet of gum. The cashier, who had a bored expression on his face, gave her everything in a paper bag. Clare wasn't paying attention to where she was going and crashed right into the devil himself. She groaned and thought "The one day I buy milk in a glass bottle is the day it just had to fall and break." Strangely Eli looked concerned about the milk splattered all over the sidewalk. He said, "Wait here." and walked into the deli. Clare was busy examining her shoes for milk when Adam said "He really likes you, you know." Clare who was redder than a tomato gasped and said "What? What are you talking about?" Adam chuckled and said "Yeah, he won't shut up about you. It's all Clare this, Clare that, did you see what Clare was wearing today?" Clare blushed even more and said "Then why is he always bugging me?" Before Adam could respond, Eli came walking out of the deli with a paper bag in his hand and a sheepish grin on his face. "Sorry about that." Adam smirked and said "I have to go, uh, do something now. Bye."
He walked away leaving Eli and Clare standing awkwardly on the sidewalk. Clare frowned and said "Why are you being so nice to me? Is it true that you like me? That's what Adam said." Then she blushed and said "Never mind, forget it." and began to walk away. Eli sighed, ran his fingers through his hair and said "I'm sorry, Adam was right. I do like you, it's just that I thought you hated me and I figured that bothering you was the only way to get you to notice me." Clare giggled and said "The only reason I hated you was because I thought you were a princess eating dragon or something. Eli scoffed "I don't eat princesses, if I was a dragon I would be the smartest and fiercest, but I'm not. I would eat cows like they were meatballs and sleep in a cave. But I don't. I would leave innocent little villages a mess instead of their usual neat selves, and I would make the corn fields burn up. But I don't. I would prevent the princesses from getting married all they had been through. But I don't, I'm not a dragon. Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is that life is never a fairytale." Clare smiled softly grabbed his hand and said. "You're right, it's much better because it's real."
