So this is my first Merlin fanfiction and it's just something that I have had in my head for a couple of days now. It was much harder writing Merlin as a really little boy than I though it would be. it was also really hard writing Merlin's mom. I tried to imagine (if I were in her position) what she would say. It was very hard. So I hope that it isn't too bad. Please review if you've got the time.

"Mother… am I evil?"

Hunith looked up from her book and over to where her five year old son sat on the ground looking very serious.

She paused. "Why would you ask such a thing?"

The small boy looked up from the floor.

"Magic.. magic makes people evil… and people who do magic are evil. Doesn't… doesn't that make me evil?"

"Merlin," She said gently, walking over and sitting down next to him. "You were born with magic, you are magic. That doesn't make you evil."

Merlin looked unconvinced.

She sighed deeply, wondering how to continue.

"Merlin, I want you to know something. Babies… babies are not born evil. It is impossible. Now, you were born with magic and if all sorcerers are evil then you are the first not to be."

Merlin thought about that for a moment.

"But what abou-"

Hunith cut him off already knowing what he was going to say.

"What is your favorite reason for using magic? Really think about it." She said.

The little boy looked down at the floor, thinking hard. After a moment or two he looked up at his mother.

"I like making you smile."

Hunith felt tears filling her eyes and she quickly wiped them away.

Merlin stared at her intently and she was surprised when he stood up and walked over to a vase of wild flowers that were sitting in the window and picked one.

After a moment or two he turned around and walked back to her, proudly presenting her with a now small golden flower.

She took gently from his hand; it was solid gold.

Smiling, she looked up at her son. "You are not evil Merlin.
