Notes: Happy birthday, Cloaks and Daggers! (Although it's a bit early.) I hope you enjoy this Wally/Artemis friendship story.
Standard disclaimer applies, as always.
"I'm bored," Wally announced from his upside down position on the couch.
"What do you want me to do about it?" Artemis responded. She too was sitting on the couch (though right-side up) and was occupying herself with what looked like world civilizations homework.
"I don't know, entertain me?" Wally twisted, righting himself on the couch.
"Why don't you go bug Robin?" Artemis never looked up from the question on her worksheet.
"Can't. He gets cranky if you bug him while he's upgrading the systems."
Artemis sighed exasperatedly, "Why don't you go train then?"
"Already did this morning. Besides, Kaldur and Supey are in there right now."
"Go check on what Megan's baking then."
"She's made it clear that she doesn't want to be interrupted-something about loud noises possibly making the soufflé fall."
"You're going to bug me until I give, aren't you?" Artemis looked up from her page to see Wally's grin that screamed 'You bet.' The blond archer put her homework into the large, heavy world civilizations book and placed it on the coffee table. "What do you want to do?"
Wally's grin got bigger.
"Why won't this stupid thing work?" Artemis thwacked her Wii remote against her palm.
"It works fine. The clicking noise means you need to reload. Now help me out here, I can't keep the zombies at bay forever!"
The two heroes-in-training were playing Left 4 Dead on the big screen TV. Zombies were coming at them from everywhere. The only thing that would have made it better was if they could have used the surround sound, but due to the proximity of the kitchen they had to make do with low volume.
The game ended, with the two zombie killers victorious.
"You're not too bad," Wally commented, a friendly grin in place.
"Imagine what I could do with arrows."
"Remind me to have you on my team in the event of the Zombie Apocalypse."
Artemis grinned, "Play again?"
"You know it!"
When Wally had told Artemis that she wasn't too bad, he hadn't meant that she was a good zombie slayer (although she was). He had meant that she, herself, wasn't bad. When she first joined the team he had felt animosity towards her because she was a replacement for Speedy. But once he got to know her…she wasn't too bad.
Not bad at all.
