Jake Doyle walked into the bar. This time he wasn't going to his office upstairs. Instead, he was meeting Allison.
Allison was already there. Jake sat down at the chair across the table from her.
After a couple minutes of silence, he said, "I can't do this anymore. It's over, you and me. Officially."
Allison, unfazed, said, "Are you actually going to let me go this time?"
Jakes phone rang. "I got to get this," he said, then stood and walked away. "What is it, Leslie?"
"I broke up with William."
"Meet me at my apartment in twenty minutes."
Outside, the sun was shining brightly. It reflected off the water like diamonds. It was a perfect day to be outside chasing some loser thug. But there was no need of loser thug chasing.
Jake was only in his apartment for about two minutes before he heard a knock at the door. But when he opened it, he found Nikki standing there.
"I didn't expect you to be home," she said.
"Then what the hell are you doing here?"
"Why do you look so surprised?"
"I was expecting someone."
Just then, that someone decided to show up. Nikki made her escape quickly and quietly as soon as Jake's focus was on Leslie.
"Come in," he said.
When they were seated, Leslie started talking. "William's a lying bastard. He said not to trust you. And i didn't for a little while. Now I know it's him I shouldn't trust. I'm and idiot for believing him."
"No, you're not."
"Yes, I am. Where's Allison?"
"I broke up with her."
"Because I called?"
"No, just before. But because..." His voice faltered.
"Because of what?"
"Because I love you. I knew I couldn't have you but I couldn't stand you seeing me with her."
"I love you, too."
"It's the main reason I broke up with William. I couldn't stand you seeing me with him."
