Hermione sadly watched her husband walk away. She had no other choice then to walk back into the room and face her children.

She pushed the door open with one hand and walked in, the sight of her children asleep in Minerva's lap made her heart melt.

"I was only gone a few minutes, what happened?"

" Severus had to go back to Hogwarts so I were reading to them, and they fell asleep. How did it go with Quinn?" Minerva asked

Hermione sighed deeply, and sank into the chair across from Minerva, he's upset but I think he blames himself. Although he's far too stubborn to admit it, he's spent the past four years trying to protect his children from something he doesn't understand." Hermione said tearfully.

Minerva reached out and touched Hermione's hand.

Hermione was surprised that Minerva had initiated the physical contact, but she didn't pull away.

"Talk to me." Minerva said gently.

"What do you want to know?"

"First, tell me why you're crying."

"I don't know. Hormones, I guess I just hate fighting with him."

"I know, I wish I could tell you it would get better and that Quinn would grow more comfortable with magic. But I simply don't know." Minerva said softly.

"We met in Australia, did I ever tell you that?" Hermione reflected.

"No…you didn't." Minerva couldn't help but smile at Hermione's openness.

"For our fourth or fifth date, he took me on a hike and this huge snake slithered up his trousers-" Hermione was cut off by a male voice.

"I screamed like a banshee!"

Hermione turned around and saw Quinn leaned against the door frame, smiling at her.

"I couldn't help myself, I whipped out my wand and killed the snake."

Minerva's soft expression suddenly turned into a hard glare.

Quinn knew where this was going so he took the opportunity to back away and out of the room.

"So that is how you ended up with that huffy Irishman" Minerva exploded.

"Minerva, I didn't 'end up' with Quinn. I chose him."

"Hermione, I've never taken you for a fool but I thought you had more sense than to trap yourself by reveling your biggest secret to a man you hardly knew."

" A venomous snake was about to bite him, what was I supposed to do? Furthermore, I didn't 'trap myself' I love Quinn, Minerva. He's kind, caring and he loves me." Hermione said passionately.

"You have his children, of course you love him now!" Minerva fumed. As she whipped out her wand and transfigured the chair she was sitting in, into a sofa. She gently laid each of the children on the sofa.

Just when Hermione thought the storm was over, Minerva stood up and began pacing around the room, the IV pole trailing behind her.

"Minerva, you need to calm down before you give yourself a stroke." Hermione said.

"I just don't understand how you could have been so…so…so…." Minerva struggled for the right word to describe the depth of Hermione's foolishness.

"So what… Minerva, go on…say it. You don't understand how I could have been so –"

"I don't understand how you could have been so stupid." Minerva huffed.

She saw the tears that had formed in Hermione's eyes and regretted the words the moment she said them.

"Hermione I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way." Minerva tried to apologize but it was too late, Hermione was already rousing the children and heading towards the fireplace.

"Hermione , wait!" Minerva cried.

In a fume of wounded temper Hermione turned around.

"Be in touch when I'm smart enough for you, Minerva."
