Another one-short, I figured I would do a one-shot on each person in the new series to keep me busy, first up is River Song. The Doctor muses on her and their relationship.

He was selfish and he knew it. No one can begin to comprehend how selfish he was. The first time he ever saw her, she ended her life for him. Yet, he stands there and looks to her in the eye and claims that nothing is wrong.

You Just Watch Us Run…

Run, that's all we do, that's all I do. I run from the past and unknowingly she runs from her future. I keep her running, I keep her close, and I keep her from her future.

That's a Fairytale…Aren't we all…

He wonders if she knows; Him being selfish and keeping her living this fairytale, hoping it never to end. He wonders if she can see the truth in very old eyes even though he tries so hard to bury the truth from her.

One thing you should know about The Doctor…He Lies.

She would know that better than anyone else really. Her entire life with him was one giant selfish lie. The first time he met her, she died. She died… so what is the worst that can happen? She can die…was no longer a valid argument with her.

I promised you the equivalent of an army…

Does she really think him to be like that? An entire army in one person? He doesn't ask her that; he was too busy questioning her on the man she killed. Too busy being angry at her for using him as a TARDIS taxi but somehow he knows this won't be the last time she calls on him.

When The Doctor comes to call…

He was right; it wasn't the last time she called him. So many times he lost count and sometimes the calling was done from inside his own ship. When she called he always answered.

You always come when I call…

She was right, he always did. Out of the guilt that plagued him from the moment for her death until the last time he would ever see her again.

You humans, you wither and die...

She doesn't wither but she does die and he strings her along like a child with a teddy bear. He shows his feelings and she shows hers. Now when he looks back he can see the hurt more clearly in her eyes the day of The Library. The pain of being lied to, the pain of being there because she was already dead to him, knowing her travels only happened because of this day, knowing that he was only using her, being selfish because the worse had already happened, and the pain of dying alone because the man you love doesn't love you yet.

Knowing that the man you loved only loved you because you died the first time he met you.

Selfish Bastard…
