Summary: More to Reid and Hotch's talk in Hanley Waters.
A/N: My friend Sarah (misguidedchoices) gave me the prompt, "I do it because you are worth it." I changed it to we.
"It's just not fair that she's gone. It's like if we can't keep each other safe then why are we even doing any of this? Sometimes I think maybe… maybe Gideon was right, you know? Maybe… maybe it's just not worth it." Reid choked out.
Sometimes it really didn't seem worth it. Especially now, after Emily it really hit him how little could be done. He missed her more than he could put into words.
Hotch sighed. As much as he wished he could scream out the secret that was weighing his soul down he knew he couldn't, wouldn't. "We do it… we do it because you are worth it. Morgan is worth it. Garcia is worth it. And Rossi is worth it. Don't you want to keep Emily alive by showing her that we can do it? We can do this job. We can do it for her and Gideon. We do it to show ourselves that we can. "Hotch told him hoping that somehow Reid would understand.
"I know." Was his short reply, "It's just so… hard… sometimes."
"I know." Hotch replied, saying nothing more, because he knew he was getting dangerously close to letting Reid's mind rest.
They sat there in silence for a moment. "Well," Reid said quietly, "Thanks. I know this is hard for you too. Especially you. I just wanted to say that I'm here if you need to talk. About anything." He stood and walked to the door.
Hotch gave a small smile. "Thanks."
