She comes awake by inches. First there's the feeling of dirt against bare skin, so she must be naked. Funny, that she's not ashamed. Next, there are memories. A monster in the robes of a priest, his mouth at her neck, and his blood on her tongue as everything fades away. And then there is hunger. A deep, gnawing, unladylike hunger, the likes of which she's never known. Finally, just before she opens her eyes, there is singing. Her eyes fly open, and the monster is there, and the stars are singing her name. And everything is so very wrong.
