All alone, again. The gym was completely empty and the only sounds that could be heard was a distant dripping from one of the pumps circulating pool water.

The orange haired gym leader sitting on a small trampoline above the larger pool played with the thought of calling out a Pokémon to keep her company, but quickly dismissed it. The Pokémon were tired enough from a day of hard training and playing around.

"I wish I was still with him," she whispered, giving a small sniffle. "I wish that I was still travelling with that dummy instead of sitting here alone a Friday night, again. I even turned down that cute boy because I... because I couldn't imagine going out with someone else than..."

"Someone else than who?"

The voice was familiar and Mistys green eyes shot open. She nearly fell from the trampoline as she spun around to face the unexpected visitor, but a strong hand caught her.

"Hey, Misty," the boy said, smiling warmly at her. His black hair was a mess as usual, but his brown eyes were filled with joy and... something else.

"Ash?" she cried out, managing to get up on the trampoline again. "What are you-"

"Small change of plans," Ash interrupted. "I couldn't leave for Unova without talking to you first. Actually, I was hoping to talk to you about something specific."

Misty felt her heart racing. She knew, of course, that she shouldn't get her hopes up. This was Ash, after all, right?

"Something wrong?" he asked. She shook her head and he gave her a smile before continuing. "Have you had dinner yet?"

"Dinner?" Misty asked in a low voice.

"Yes, you know, a meal?" Ash teased.

"Dinner!" Misty yelled. "What do you mean coming here and just starting to talk about food right away?"

"Misty, listen-" Ash started, but Misty didn't let him finish. With an angry face she stuck out her tongue at him and then grabbed a hold around his waist. He looked like he was about to say something when she gave him a hard tug and he lost his footing, both of them tumbling into the pool below.

Misty came up first, Ash emerging from the water just after her.

"Misty, what are you doing?" he asked in a shocked voice.

"I thought you wanted to talk to me, not just come here for food!" she yelled, splashing with her arms as she did.

"Well actually," Ash said in a slightly cold voice, "I just wanted to ask you on a date."

"A date?" Misty repeated.

"A date, yes," Ash said.

"That kind of date?" Misty asked, raising both eyebrows high.

"Of course!" Ash yelled. "I was really nervous, but Brock said you would say yes without a doubt, so I didn't expect to be pulled into a pool of cold water!"

"Oh Ash, I am so sorry!" Misty giggled. "It's just, it's just," she tried, but a second later she started laughing like mad. Ash smiled again, swimming to the edge of the pool and hanging on to it, watching Misty laugh it off before finally turning serious again.

"It's just," she said, "I never expected you to really understand how I felt for you. Or how I hoped you felt for me."

"Times changes, I guess?" Ash said. Misty nodded. Ash was now out of the pool and extended a hand to help her up. She grabbed it.

"Still want a date with the crazy girl who pulled you into the water?" she asked, smiling.

"I wouldn't expect anything less from the worlds greatest water Pokémon trainer, right?" Ash said, giving her a wink.

"You mean you won't mind me doing it again!" Misty laughed, giving his arm a tug, making him fall back into the water. She climbed out, looking down on the soaked boy as he once again crawled out of the pool.

"Guess I'd better go change into some dry clothing at the hotel, huh?" Ash said. "And you should change too."

"Yeah, I'll meet you outside the gym in thirty minutes?" Misty answered.

"You got it!" Ash answered, dashing off.

The orange haired gym leader looked after him as he exited the building. Once again, she was alone in the gym. But now, at least, she knew it wouldn't last long. Maybe this would turn out to be a good day after all.
