King William paced back and forth, listening for sounds coming through the door of the room his wife was in. Particularly a certain cry, the cry of a baby. He put his head in his hands.
He and his wife Ella had tried for so many years to have a child, one that could rule the kingdom when they passed on. And now it was finally happening.
An infant's wail was heard. The midwife came out carrying a tiny bundle.
"It's a girl." She said joyfully. She laid the baby in King William's arms and returned to the Queen.
A tiny face peeked out of the blanket. William smiled at her, and turned to the balcony. The entire kingdom had gathered beneath it, waiting to greet their new princess. He showed her to them, and a cheer arose through the people.
