Listen to The Diary Of Jane by Breaking Benjamin.
In which aspect of your life do you find yourself the most content?
Hinata couldn't say life was any easier, just that she had found a reason to make it better. Nothing much had changed, if anything her stress level should be at its ultimate high...then again in a sense it already was. Stress = tears, tears = vomit, vomit = pain/sleeping pills. Angsty perhaps, but for her they seemed effective until 2 pills a day no longer kept her agony away... To up the dosage would contain risks, were they worth taking?
Anyhow the source for her happiness was none other than Temari. The two had developed a sense of closeness, although at the same level Hinata found herself keeping her crush at a distance. She didn't like Temari any less, in-fact her feelings had grown considerably, hence her happier attitude. Today they were sitting in gym class when Ino walked up beginning her pointless chatter. Hinata sat on the floor as usual, preferring to lean against the lockers instead of sitting on a bench like any other normal person would do.
"Hinata." although it was meant to get her attention, Temari didn't phrase it as a question, but a statement.
"Hmmnnaahh?" a bit caught off guard, Hinata stares up at Temari with big lilac eyes. Temari shuffles around in the bag she carried and hands Hinata a napkin. Hinata takes it thinking it was a piece of paper at first. "What's this for?"
"It's a napkin, hold it, and close your eyes." she commands. Hinata looks at Temari skeptically while half nodding no, not in the mood for any trickery.
She hesitantly closes her eyes, tensed and ready for any danger. Temari's hand covers her eyes and something lands in her lap. Looking down, a m&m cookie lays on the napkin.
"Thank you." Hinata says softly, smiling faintly, and folds the cookie up in the napkin.
"I want a cookie too!" Ino blurts out.
"Nope I only had one, for Hinata."
"I feel special." or rather the words in Hinata's mind were, "I feel appreciated and worth more than them." A bit egotistical, but the shy girl tried nothing more than to stay on Temari's good side.
"You are." Temari smirked and Hinata couldn't help but smile back, and this time without cautiousness.
As many times as Hinata's heart would speed up with joy, or beat in anxiousness of seeing Temari, and no matter how many times she couldn't stop her mind from wandering/fantasizing about her friend, the one thing she never forgot was: don't you dare get your hopes up. She was content with how things were...sorta. The things she was content with was how Temari seemed to trust her and had opened up about her home life, and for the most part didn't seem to be irritated by her presence. But on the flip side, she constantly battled with her emotions and made a constant effort to seem cold and distant, rarely hugging or having much physical contact with Temari or Ino and Tenten for that matter. She envied the younger girls, they were clingy and close to Temari without fear or too much self-consciousness as far as all her actions went.
Earlier in P.E that day, as usual, the four of them (Temari, Hinata, Tenten, and Ino) set out to play badmittion. As the game wore on, Temari and Tenten against Hinata and Ino, Hinata found herself more and more irritable. Today she had not felt like playing badmitton and had gone along to please the others, but finally after missing yet another easy shot (not having her heart in it at all), she called it quits.
Turning to Ino, "You and Tenten are better off playing against Temari." and with that walks off, putting the racket back, ignoring everyone else. Circling the gym she cursed herself for being such a brat. Sure she hadn't wanted to play at first, but she should have stuck with it. Walking towards her friends, she sees the three of them caught in some sort of conflict, Temari about to hit Tenten with her racket. "Hey!" she calls out, "No hurting people!"
"I wasn't doing anything!" Tenten whined.
"Not you! Her!" pointing to Temari.
"Why aren't you playing?" she questions.
"I wasn't very useful." is Hinata's excuse.
"You give up too easily."
"No I don't!" she argues, "Its just Tenten was doing fine on her own!"
"You give up too easily," Temari says shaking her head, smiling, and returning back to the game. For the rest of gym Hinata couldn't help but feel mocked by Temari's smile and a bit guilt ridden. She wanted to play with them again, prove Temari wrong, but at the same time felt as if she had no right. It wasn't until Temari called out to her, that her mind was changed.
"They suck! Please play!" Temari begged laughing.
"You don't have to." Temari replies seeming to regret her words.
"Its fine, now I feel bad." she fetches a racket and takes her place next to Temari, against Ino and Tenten now.
"You don't have to play."
"I feel bad and I'll feel bad if I don't." but it wasn't long before the coaches blew their wistles and it was time to head into the locker room.
