A/N: I don't really know what this is, it just sort of popped into my head the other day. I wanted to write something with Jesse and Rachel in it. It's kind of angsty, and short, but I hope you guys like it. Don't forget to review.

"Who do you think you are? Running 'round leaving scars, collecting you jar of hearts, tearing love apart."

Rachel rested her head on Jesse's chest. She could feel his heart beating softly through the thin cotton shirt.

What was it that had happened? A few days ago, she'd been in love with Finn. Now she only wanted this: to be curled up on her dads' couch, her hand wrapped in Jesse's, her head against his chest, his face buried in her hair, with Rent playing on their television.

"I forgot how good you smelled," said Jesse softly, as he inhaled.

"I didn't," Rachel whispered, squeezing his hand.

"I never forgot how soft your skin was," he responded, rubbing little circle on her hand with his thumb. "Or how cute I thought your nose was."

Rachel sat up quickly. "Really?"

"Yeah," laughed Jesse. "I mean, you look exactly like your mom, except for that nose. I kind of thought of it as a… redeeming quality."

Rachel was both slightly offended and pleased at the same time. She settled her head quietly on Jesse's shoulder, then after a moment, she muttered, "I was going to get a nose job, you know."

"What?" laughed Jesse. "No way. Rachel Berry, ruin the most wonderful and unique thing about her? What about Barbara?"

"Yeah, that's how everyone convinced me," Rachel laughed softly. She paused again for a long moment. "I was going to get Quinn's nose."

Jesse stiffened for a moment.

"Any particular reason for her nose?" he asked, his voice sounding forcedly nonchalant.

Rachel didn't say anything, she knew that Jesse knew why she wanted Quinn's nose. There was no use hiding it from him, or even herself. "She has a pretty nose, I suppose."

"Yeah, I guess."

Jesse was still stiff.

Rachel sat up and leaned forward. "Let's not think about it anymore."

Jesse stared hard at her, then pressed his lips against hers, suddenly and un-expectedly. His hand reached around and pulled Rachel close.

When Rachel's eyes closed, she could see Finn, smiling in his endearing way before he would kiss her, and she could imagine his big hands that wrapped around her rather than Jesse's. She could feel her eyes stinging, but she kissed Jesse back with a passion she didn't understand.

It was only when Rachel's fingers curled in Jesse's hair that she suddenly remembered who it was she was with. The magic suddenly was broken, her eyes opened, her heart stopped thumping, and the buzzing in her ears stopped.

"Let's open up a restaurant in Santa Fe, sunny Santa Fe would be, nice."

Rachel pushed Jesse away gently.

"Jesse, I don't know if I can do this," Rachel said, shaking her head.

Jesse sighed. "Look, Rachel, I don't know how many times I can say I'm sorry-"

"Wait, just hear me out," Rachel said. "I loved you. I loved you, I came this close to giving you everything about myself, and you crushed that. You stomped on my heart and broke it into a thousand pieces, I mean, God!" she shook her head dramatically. "You hurt me so badly Jesse St. James, and then just came back. Who do you think you are?"

Jesse stared at her, looking surprised at her outburst.

"Rachel, I really do love you," Jesse said, reaching out his hand a placing it gently against her face.

Rachel turned her face away.

"I'm sorry Jesse," she whispered. "I don't think we should continue our relationship right now."

Rachel stared at the pattern on her rug as she felt the couch shift. She heard Jesse's footsteps, and finally the door slammed.

"Who do you think you are?" Rachel sang softly to herself.

Rachel broke down and started to sob.
