"Little Moments"
I'll never forget the first time I heard Sam drop the F-bomb. It was just so odd and funny to hear her, with her sweet, little voice swear. She begged me to practice driving with her. She had her hardship license, but Wyatt hardly ever let her drive. He claimed that he didn't have the time, but I think he just wanted to keep Sam his little girl. Since Wyatt wouldn't, Sam kept asking me.
One day, Wyatt was picking up feed. Grace was visiting Trudy. Brynna was at work and took Cody with her. With no one to distract her, Sam followed me around for an hour, asking over and over again if I would drive with her. I finally gave in, realizing seconds after agreeing that my truck was the only vehicle there. We drove for about an hour with no problems. Then she started backing up, I can't even remember what she hit. She slammed on the breaks as soon as she bumped it. She swore then covered her mouth. Her face got all red and she turned towards me. I wanted to pretend to be mad, but she just looked so cute. I just smirked and told her not to worry about it. She gave me a shy smile in return.
Sam and I always got each other something for our birthdays. Last year cattle prices dropped. Being low on funds Sam decided to bake me a cake. She had been practicing cooking and baking with Grace. Sometimes her food was delicious, other times it wasn't even edible. She just didn't have the patience, most of the time. She came over to my house early in the morning to start baking. After she put the cake in the oven, she went outside, saying she'd just peek in on Ace and be right back. Next thing I know there is black smoke billowing out of the house and all the smoke detectors were blaring. Sam dashed into the house and quickly pulled the cake out. It was like a black charcoal brick. Tears filled her eyes as she stared forlorn at the cake. I gave her a hug and buried my face in her hair; to muffle my laughter.
Despite her best efforts Sam is constantly making mistakes. She tries so hard to be perfect; for her family; for her friends; for me. I may complain about her mistakes, but I'm so glad she makes them. Her little mistakes are the excitement in my life, like the time we were driving to Reno to visit my brother. She insisted on reading the map, after an hour of driving in circles she finally admitted we were lost. We were also out of gas. We had to walk two miles to a gas station; we held hands the entire way.
When Sam and I started dating, we watched a lot of movies. Neither one of us could afford to go to the theater every week, so we alternated watching movies at each others houses. We'd sit on the couch with all the lights turned off. Normally by the end of the movie Sam was asleep with her head on my shoulder. My arm would also be asleep, but she looked so sweet and peaceful, I didn't want to wake her up. She's so careless, stubborn and sweet. Its moments like these I fall in love with her again, moments like these I live for.
