Hello! :D this is my first Infernal Device story so cut me some slack if it's bad :P
And yes I know that there's another story like this, but I asked the author of that if I could make a story a little like their's and they said they were okay with it.
Disclaimer: I do not own the Infernal Devices, nor any of the characters. They belong to the extremely awesomely awesome Cassandra Clare.
Tessa walked gloomily down Fleet Street. She was trying to get the unfathomable boy, Will Herondale out her mind, but had gotten no such luck.
Ever since Will had...propositioned Tessa, they had studiously ignored each other, aside from the occasional greeting, not much was said between them.
And as much as it bothered Tessa, she wanted Will to talk to her, but she would never start the conversation. William owed her an apology, so start the conversation he must if wished to make amends with her. But Tessa was almost sure he didn't want to.
So there she was, walking around London with no particular destination in mind. And while she was walking she wasn't paying attention to where she was walking because she was so rapped up in her thoughts.
Then the next she knew she was on the ground. And saw in front of her was a boy maybe a year or so older than her. He swore and got up. "Bloody hell, I'm wearing my new coat too…"
He looked awfully familiar, but before Tessa could decipher the face, he offered his hand to help her up.
She gladly accepted it, because she was still a little wobbly from being knocked down so suddenly. When she had finally stood up again she realized who it was. Gabriel Lightwood.
His hair was slightly ruffled and his green eyes were blazing. "My apologies." Gabriel's attention went right to her after she said that.
"Ms. Gray? The warlock girl?" he asked
Tessa got slightly angry at this comment and snapped. "No, Ms. Gray, the American girl."
Gabriel looked slightly taken aback then grinned, "It is my turn to apologize Ms. Gray, I didn't mean to offend you."
Tessa just nodded and said "It's quite alright, Mr. Lightwood."
"Please, call me Gabriel."
"Very well, Gabriel. I must be on my way back to the Institute, goodbye." Tessa said and started to walk off but Gabriel caught her by the arm.
"Ms. Gray, would you mind accompanying me for a cup of tea?"
Tessa was shocked, but recovered quickly. "I really must be getting back."
"You do owe me, you know. You knocked me over." Gabriel said with a smile.
"Yes, but I apologized."
"That is very true, but I still have a small rip in my new coat." Gabriel grinned at her.
Tessa eyed him, she didn't want to go get tea with Gabriel, which is why the words that came out of her mouth shocked her. "Alright fine, but I cannot be long."
Tessa sipped her tea quietly. "So…umm…how are you, Gabriel?"
Gabriel raised his eyebrows, but answered. "I've been fine, and you Ms. Gray?"
"I've been well."
An awkward silence came between the two. After a while Tessa decided to ask, "Why did you want me to have tea with you, Mr. Lightwood?"
"My name is Gabriel," He said with a grin but the smile vanished when he continued, "I'm not sure really, I was having a rather bad day, and…just wanted to have some tea."
"Why has your day been bad?" Tessa asked then slightly scolded herself, "If you don't mind me asking."
Gabriel looked up from his tea cup and said, "My father simply gets me angry."
Tessa decided not to push him further, "Oh I'm sorry to hear that."
Gabriel simply nodded and then said, "Now if you don't mind me asking, what are you doing walking around London alone? I would assume Ms. Branwell would send James or William with you…" but he trailed off. He must've seen your face when he said Will's name.. Tessa thought distantly.
"Have you finally learned that, Will Herondale," He said the name with venom, "Is a despicable creature?"
"I simply don't favor him anymore." Tessa said flatly.
Gabriel nodded, "I see, what did he do to you?"
Tessa glanced up. "What makes you think he did anything?"
Now Gabriel looked up, "I saw your face when I mentioned him, and we are talking about William here."
Tessa hesitated, she didn't need to tell him anything. But decided to give him a very short un-detailed version of the story.
"Well, Charlotte had asked me if I would like to stay at the Institute..."
"..and I was trying to clear my head with the walk, but wasn't doing that well, and wasn't paying much attention, then I bumped into you." Tessa finished.
Gabriel had been quiet through the whole story, simply nodding when appropriate. "I see why you are upset."
Tessa nodded and took a sip of her now cold tea. "Now that I have told you my story of my lately events, why does your father get you angry?"
Gabriel gripped his tea cup tighter and said, "He rather favors other women than my mother."
Tessa gaped slightly, she wasn't expecting such a…well, flat answer. "Oh…"
"Yes, I would greatly appreciate if we could not talk about it."
"Of course." Tessa said and looked toward the sky, it was nearly evening! "Oh, I must be getting back, Charlotte will be wondering where I am."
Gabriel stood with her and said, "I shall walk you back, a lady shouldn't be walking alone this close to evening."
Tessa was about to deny his request, but he was already leading the way back the Institute.
"Um, alright…" Tessa walked beside Gabriel quietly.
"What do you like to do in your spare time Ms. Gray?" Gabriel said halfway back.
"I enjoy reading."
"As do I, what's your favorite novel?" Gabriel asked.
"A Tale of Two Cities."
"'I have sometimes sat alone here of an evening, listening, until I have made the echoes out to be the echoes of all the footsteps that are coming by and by into our lives.'" Gabriel quoted.
"I assume you enjoy it as well?" Tessa said with a smile.
"Very much so actually." Gabriel said. "Charles Dickens is one of my favorites."
"Mine as well." Tessa replied. Gabriel hadn't looked like one to read, but neither had Will..
"And what is your favorite color, Ms. Gray?"
"You may call me Tessa," Tessa thought if he had allowed her to call him by his Christian name, she should return the favor. "And it is blue, what is yours?" Tessa replied.
"Well, Tessa my favorite color is green."
"That's nice.." Tessa trailed off
"And we are here." Gabriel said. Tessa looked up. They were at the Institute.
"Well good evening, Gabriel."
Gabriel nodded, "Good evening, Tessa."
Tessa walked up to the door and knocked. Sophie opened the door. "Oh, hello Ms. Gray."
Tessa realized she had been gone for hours. "My apologies. Where is everyone, Sophie?"
"They're eating dinner, miss." and lead Tessa to the dining room.
Once Charlotte saw her she said, "My goodness Tessa, we've been worried."
"I'm sorry, Charlotte, I was––"
"Sophie, would you mind getting Tessa some dinner?"
Sophie nodded and ducked into the kitchen.
"Tessa, are alright? Like Charlotte said, we've all been awfully worried." Jem said.
Tessa smiled at him, "I'm quite alright, I didn't mean to worry you."
"Should've thought of that sooner, Charlotte was getting ready to send us out looking for you." Will said. Tessa sent a glare towards Will, but turned when Charlotte asked, "If you don't mind me asking Tessa, where were you?"
"I had tea with Gabriel Lightwood."
Everyone dropped their forks.
Well watcha think? Let me no in reviews whether I should continue or not :D Will and Jem are gonna get jeaaloouuss XD. And sorry if some of the vocabulary isn't 1878 style, I tried :P And no, Gabriel doesn't want to put the moves on Tessa, there just gonna be friends, (Maybe ;D)
