Gift Of The Magi
Author's Notes: Hello my readers (old and new!) It's me Shachiecoh Hime and I'm back with another ICHIXRUKI Fanfic! And to be honest I don't know what got me to write a new story. For those of you who've read my other stories before might recall how I'm always complaining about being so busy with college that I can never keep my promises of fast updates. But for some reason I just HAD to write this story. It's very humor-oriented and a lot of romance. wink Hehe.
The only thing that worries me is that I'm currently writing this at the same time with my other fic so I'm going to have to put the other one off for some time... Sorry for those who are reading On the Way to a Smile. By the way this story is school fic. So you will not meet Ichigo and Rukia and the others with their Zanpaktou or wearing that black kimono. Hehe.
Anyway let's get going. You probably would find some mistakes about the grammar, prepositions and punctuations marks in this chapter but I hope you can read it well. Wait! Leave reviews I need that. It serves as my barometer for updating. Now, here's Shachiecoh Hime. Signing on!
Disclaimer: I do not own Bleach. I do not own any episodes of the series Bleach or a hardcopy issue of its manga. I do not own Ichigo, Rukia and Renji, etc. or any Rukia and Ichigo sweetness you are going to witness in this chapter. I'm not the super genius Kubo Tite. I'm just Shachiecoh Hime
It's almost nine o'clock in the evening. 24 year old, Kurosaki Ichigo slowly walks inside a small room where he finds his three-year old daughter, Imari, reading a book on top of her bed. "Alright sweetie." He said to his little angel as he gets the book she's reading and closes it. "It's time to sleep."
The little girl answered, "But I'm not yet sleepy, daddy."
"Oh. That's too bad." He replied. "Good girls should be sleeping by now."
"I know but…"
Ichigo smiled. He sits beside his daughter and asked. "Do you want daddy to tell or reads you a story?"
Imari's eyes widen with happiness. "Really?" She asked happily. "I want too. I want too."
He then puts his little girl on his lap and answered, "So? What do you want daddy to tell you? Cinderella? Snow White?"
She shook her head. "Alladin and the Magic Lamp."
"Alladin?" Ichigo asked.
She nodded. "Anno… Daddy." She said. "Are genies really capable of granting wishes?"
"Well… In the story, Alladin is able to get what he wishes so I think yes."
"Then I can make a wish to a genie too? He'll make it come true, right?"
"Everything is possible if you just believe, sweetie. If you really want something even without a help from a genie, just believe in yourself and to the people around you, I'm sure the thing you love the most will surely come true. Remember that a dream is always your hearts makes."
"I see…" Imari answered. She paused for a while and looks at her father. "Is it possible today that there's still a genie? Or they really exist only in stories?"
Ichigo stopped for a while as he remembers something. Then he smiled. Wondering what's wrong with him, she called, "Daddy?"
He startled. "Yeah. I think so."
"Really? How did you know? Did you see one?"
Ichigo nodded. "A very handsome genie."
"There was once a genie…" Ichigo started telling. "…but unlike any other genies he doesn't have the power to grant a wish because he's not that powerful and wealthy. So when the beautiful princess of the kingdom asked a wish from him, he wasn't able to give it right away…"
Imari starts to cry after feeling sorry for the genie. "Then? What happened?" She asked sobbing.
"But since he loves so much the princess, he made a vow from her. That he'll keep her wish. And he'll work hard until he's capable of granting her wish. He asked her to wait for three years."
Imari listens carefully as Ichigo continue telling the story. "So what happened, daddy?" She asked. "Did the genie's promised come true? Was he able to grant the princess's wish after three years?"
Ichigo looked at his daughter and the years begin to move in reverse, slowly ticking backward, like the hands of a clock rotating in wrong direction. And now, we arrived 9 years ago from the present time. This is when will the story began.
Chapter 1: Ichigo and Rukia
Karakura High School, 9 years ago, around 3:15 in the afternoon.
"I can't believe it!" a black-haired girl surprisingly reacted as she looks at the results of her Math exam which all of her classmates from the Banana Class took last week. "I put a lot of effort in reviewing our notes. I even attended a remedial class and I- I only got 50 points out of 100 items?"
"Don't feel disappointed, Rukia-chan." A bald guy named Ikaku Madarame depressingly said to her. "You have to be happy that you score at least half of the items. Compared to my score, yours is too high to reach."
Rukia looks at him. He's sitting depressingly on the corner of their classroom. "What do you mean, Ikaku-kun?" She asked.
He looks at her. "I got a shining and shimmering ZERO point!"
"Hahaha!" Yumichika, Ikaku's best friend, laughed to the max. "It's just like your head, man!" He added. "But you don't have to feel disappointed so much, Ikaku. At least you have to be proud."
"How can I be so proud of my score?" Ikaku asked. "This is the third time that I got a zero from math exam."
"That's the thing…" Yumickiha said. "The fact that you failed the exam three times a row is a world record. We can enter that in the Guiness Book of Record and named you to be the first guy to fail in Math Exam three times. Isn't that great?"
"SHUT UP!" Ikaku shouted. Then he chases him all over the class room.
Rukia laughed as she watches those two teasing each others. Then she turned to face the guy sitting on her left side. "What about you, Ichigo?" She asked. "How's your score?"
Instead of answering, he shows his test paper in front of her eyes for her to see the result. Her eyes widen. She gets the test paper from him and asked curiously. "How did this happen?"
Ichigo shrugged his shoulders.
"We studied together." She said. "We reviewed the same lectures and read the same books and notes but you… You got a perfect score! On the other hand, I only got 50? It's not fair. I demand an explanation on this."
"Rukia-chan's right." Ikaku agreed. He just came back after beating Yumichika. "It's not fair that you're the only one who got a perfect 100 points in this class. So I have a suggestion to make."
"Huh?" Ichigo asked.
"Lend me your 50 points so I can pass." Ikaku said. "If you do that, I will have 50 points. You will also have 50 points and Rukia-chan already had her 50 points. All of us will have an equal score. What do you think?"
Ichigo looks at him and give him a smile. "It comes with a price. Do you still want me to give you half of my score?"
Ikaku paused for a while. He looks at his test paper and then to Ichigo. He had no choice. He has to accept his deal or else his name will be on the Guiness Book of Record like Yumichika said. He looks again at Ichigo. He's a guy who follows the principles of alchemy. You have to give something in order to gain something. That's what Ichigo always says when someone asking him a favor. He then takes a deep breath. "Fine." He answered when he exhaled. "What do you want?"
"A free lunch until the end of the semester." Ichigo replied.
"W-H-A-T!" Ikaku freaked out. "Do you want me to be bankrupt?"
Ichigo laughed. "Your reaction says no, right? Anyway, better luck next time."
"Stop that conspiracy." Rukia told them. "Besides, your evil plan will not work for all of our scores are already in our teacher's class record. So the fact that you, Ikaku, got a zero will never change."
"You don't have to say it again, Rukia-chan." Ikaku said in low tone.
Meanwhile, Ichigo's looking at Rukia. She then noticed it and asked, "Is something wrong with my face?" She asked.
Ichigo blushed. "No- Nothing. It's just that…" He said. He paused for sometime and continued, "You're coming with me, right?"
Rukia smiled at him. "I promised you, right?"
Suddenly, the class SEXY-tary errr… I mean secretary, Rangiku Matsumoto, comes in the scene and asked. "Coming to where?" She asked. Talking about Rukia and Ichigo's conversation.
"Ichigo's working at a Coffee Shop called Palm Tree. I promised him that I'll come with him today." Rukia replied.
"Ahhm… Sounds interesting. Mind if I join?" Rangiku replied.
Then, everything is perfect for Ichigo, until the school heartthrob from the Apple Class comes in. That heartthrob is the son of the owner of Seventh Heaven, a famous recording company and the reason behind the success of famous bands like Route L, Lemon Angel, Mermaid Melody, etc. and singers like Lacus Clyne, Meer Campbell, Full Moon and many more.
"Rukia." The heartthrob, who is also known as Renji Abarai, called.
"Oh my god!" Rangiku said as she nudges Rukia's shoulder. "Your knight in shining armor is coming to save you."
Rukia blushed. "Stop it, Rangiku." She whispered. "We're just friends."
"Really?" Rangiku asked again. "Love starts in friendship."
Renji then reached the place where Rukia is. "Hey." He said to her.
"Re- Renji!" Rukia called as her face turned red. "What is it?"
Ichigo caught a glimpse of that blushing face. He looked away.
"I have free tickets for UVERworld's concert."
"UVERworld?" Rukia asked. "The band that sang D-tecnolife, Colors of the heart? You mean the number one band here in Karakura?"
"Sure. I'll come. When is it?"
"Tonight. At 5 p.m."
Rukia paused for a while. "You mean, tonight?"
"I- I can't." Rukia said in low tone. "I already have plans made so I'm sorry."
"Can't you just postpone it?"
Rukia shook her head. "I'm sorry. But I made a promise with Ichigo that I'll come with him to where he works. Why don't you just take Ikaku or Rangiku on that concert?"
"That's right!" Ikaku said. "Now, let's go to the place where UVERworld will rock the house."
Renji looks at ichigo who's saying nothing. "Is that so?"
"But you know, Kurosaki…" He said to Ichigo. "Tomorrow, they'll be leaving for U.S to start their world tour. Today is the last concert here in Karakura. It will take time for them to return here in our country. Rukia will lose the chance on seeing them in person. That would be bad because it's her favorite band. And it's not like your working place will go somewhere. So why don't you just let Rukia come with me and everything will go fine."
He didn't answer.
"Besides…" Renji added. "Rukia's the Kuchiki heiress. She doesn't belong to lower class coffee shop. Don't treat her like an ordinary person. Know your place."
"Stop it, Renji!" Rukia shouted.
Renji looks at her. He sighed. "Alright. My fault." He said. "I've said too much. Anyway, to make up to what I said, here. I have an excess ticket. You can come with us if you want. But my car can only fit five persons. So just use a bus to get there."
Ichigo gets the ticket and tear it up right in front of Renji's eyes. "I don't need it."
"Wh- What did you do?" He shouted. "Do you know how much that ticket cost?"
Ichigo then stands up and walk away.
"Hey, where are you going?" Rukia asked.
"I'm leaving for my work."
Renji laughed. "I pity you. No…" He said. "I admire you. After 8 hours of being here in school. You still have energy to go to work. Well, I guess that's a life for a common person like you. You have to work hard so that you can pay your tuition."
Ichigo turned around and said to Renji. "You're right. I'm a commoner. But that doesn't mean you can step into my pride. I'm not like you. You're nothing but a guy wrapped with good looks and wealthy family background but when you look inside- you're nothing but a rotten man. Even though I am poor... I'm happy with what I have. I have family and my friends. I learned to strive hard to become strong and to attain something I want. Don't judge me- for you don't know me." Ichigo then turned around but Renji stops him.
"Wait I'm not yet-!" he shouted but it was Ichigo's fist that answered him. It's an inches away from his face.
"Say something about myself again and I have that face of you erased." Ichigo said in serious tone.
"Ichigo." Rukia called.
"I'm going now." He said turning his back against her. "Have fun."
"But…" She said. So she's left there watching Ichigo leave the room. "Why do you have to say something like that?" She said to Renji
"I hate him." Renji answered.
"Hate him?" Rukia asked. "He's not doing anything to you as far as I know. He doesn't know you that well too so why hate him?"
Renji looks at her. "He's stealing someone I want." He thought. "Nothing."
At Palm Tree, the place where Ichigo's taking a part time job, "You seem to be in bad mood." A pretty orange-haired girl named Inoue said to him.
"Not really." He answered as he wipes the table.
"But your face can't hide it." She said.
"Did something happen at school?" Chad asked.
"Nothing." He denied.
"Could it be because of that girl named Rukia?" Ishida asked. He's the manager of the shop.
"Rukia?" Inoue asked. "Who's she?
"Well she's Ichigo's…" Ishida was about to answer but Ichigo stopped him.
"Ahhh!" He shouted. "Stop it." He said blushing. "It's not that because of her that I'm pissed. It's because of that Renji Abarai. God! I want to kill him."
"Ahh…" Chad said. "…The guy who always looks down on you? Do you want me to teach him a lesson?"
Ichigo smiled. "Thanks, Chad." He said. "…but there's no need for that I'm going to work hard and make Renji see that I can succeed with my own two hands."
"That's the spirit, Kurosaki-kun." Inoue told him. "Besides, you have us so cheer up."
"Thanks, Inoue." He replied.
The next day, Ichigo walks outs of his house and is leaving for school when Rukia, who's waiting outside their gate, caught his attention. "G-o-o-d M-or-n-i-n-g!" She said.
"Rukia!" He surprisingly called. "What are you doing here?"
"Geez" She said as she pinches him on both cheeks. "When someone greeted you 'good morning' it's your job to greet them back.
"And what took you so long to go out of your house? I've been freezing here waiting for you, you know? How can you make a beautiful girl like me wait that long?"
"You're here in this cold weather? God you're tough. And besides, I don't know you're waiting for me here. Why didn't you come inside the house? And another thing, you're not beautiful."
"So why are you here waiting for me?" Ichigo asked. "Where's your driver Zangetsu-san?"
"It's his day off." Rukia answered. The two then start walking towards the school. "Besides..." Rukia added. "I want to make up with you for what happened yesterday."
He didn't answer.
"I was supposed to go with you at Palm Tree, right? But it was cancelled because of Renji. So I want to make up for that by waking up early and go to school together. I also cooked you a bento."
"You don't have to do that." He replied. "You did the right choice. I mean, Renji is your boyfriend. On the other hand I'm just a friend. It's natural for you to come with him. Besides if Renji learned about this again…"
"He's not my boyfriend!" Rukia shouted.
"But you like him."
"Oh! Don't try to hide it. You're face were all red when he came to you yesterday."
"Stop it. It's not funny."
Rukia paused for a while. "Speaking of apologizing…" Rukia said. "I'm sorry about Renji's behavior. I'll make sure it won't happen again."
"Why are you saying sorry on his behalf?"
"You like him."
"Are you mad at me?" Rukia asked in low tone.
"Why would I? You haven't done anything wrong.
"The truth is…" He said. "…I too want you to be on that concert."
"Because you really love that UVERworld, right?"
Rukia blushed. "Then… the reason why you took all Renji's humiliation is…"
Ichigo nodded. "Palm Tree isn't going anywhere. You can still come to that place any time. But when I heard what that guy said that the band will leave for U.S I feel like you really have to be there. That's why-"
Rukia then jumps toward him giving him a hug. "You… how could you…" She said. Ichigo quickly caught her around the waist and lifted her up as she held onto his toned shoulders. Ichigo blushed on their position. She was being held up by his tight grip around her waist, lifting her up slightly that she was on her toes, while her hands were holding onto him as if for dear life. Rukia then looks at him.
"Thank you." She said.
Ichigo smiled. "Did you enjoy yourself there?"
Rukia, still from Ichigo's embrace, replied, "Yeah."
"I'm glad." He replied. He then put her down and said. "Let's go."
After class, Rukia immediately headed at home and there she finds, her brother-in-law, Byakuya, with her sister, Hisana talking with someone who seems to have the same age as them.
"I'm back." She said. "Eh? A visitor?" She asked.
"Rukia." Byakuya called. "Come here."
Wondering what's wrong, she comes closer to them. "What is it? Nii-sama?"
"I want you to meet Miss. Unohana. Introduce yourself to her." He said.
Rukia nodded. "Kuchiki Rukia. Nice meeting you, Unohana-san." She said while bowing as a sign of respect.
Unohana smiled. "You're indeed pretty. Making a gown for you wouldn't be that difficult."
"Gown?" Rukia asked.
"Why don't you change first your clothes?" Hisana said to her. "We have to discuss a lot of things. From the food, invitations, guests, venue, etc."
"What for?" Rukia asked.
"For you 15th birthday party." Hisana answered.
Rukia looks at the calendar. Since she's so busy she forgot that a very important day is coming. "Come to think of it… I'm turning 15."
To be continued.
