Emily stepped into Derek's kitchen, smiling when she saw him standing at the stove, stirring something that smelled delicious, with a dish towel slung over his shoulder.
"Do you always cook shirtless? Or just when you know I'm coming over?" She asked as she walked over to him. She and Derek had been dating for a while now- almost three months- and every time she had witnessed him cook, he always had his shirt off.
Not that she was complaining.
Derek looked over his shoulder and smiled, hands still stirring, leaning down and waiting expectantly until she leaned in and kiss him. "Only for you, Princess," he said jokingly as he turned back to what he was preparing.
Emily pinched him on the side lightly, causing him to jump. She had discovered that he was ticklish a few weeks ago while they were curled up on his couch watching a college football game, and she'd been using it to her advantage ever since then. "So, Halloween honey, huh?" She asked, standing on her tip toes behind him and resting her chin on his shoulder, looping her arms around his waist. "You're lucky it was Reid out there to see that wink and not Penelope or JJ. PG would've gotten a confession out of us right then and there, and I would've had to dodge JJ's texts for the next two weeks."
She heard him laugh. "True, I guess we are lucky- but I think your "Oh, now I'm creeped out" may have sealed the deal. Nice touch, by the way," he added, as an afterthought.
"Oh, baby, did your "Halloween Honey" hurt your feelings?"
"No," Derek answered, becoming increasingly focused on the food in front of him.
Emily reached around him to turn the burners to "low" before pulling Derek to the side of the oven, depositing him so he was leaning against the counter top and stepping closer to him, once again wrapping her arms around his middle.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Yes." Upon the look of disbelief that Emily gave him, Derek continued, reaching to brush tuck a piece of hair behind her ear. "It just might have been a little bit of overkill- I mean, even if Reid had caught on, it's not like the first thing he would think to do would be to go tell PG and JJ."
"I'm sorry," she said, leaning up to kiss him. "I didn't mean it." Another kiss. "You don't creep me out." One last kiss. "What are you making? It smells amazing."
"Nope, not telling. It's a surprise." Derek told her, and then laughed at the frustrated look that crossed her face.
"Well…is it almost done?"
"You know what, I think I'll keep that a secret, too," he said, returning to his previous post in front of the oven. He swatted at the hand he saw creeping towards the bowl of croutons he had out for the salad. "Nuh-uh, Princess. Dinner isn't ready yet."
A heavy, more than slightly overdramatic sigh came from behind him.
"Derek, come on. Just one crouton?"
"But baby, your Halloween Honey is hungry," she said, unable to repress the laugh that bubbled from her at the end of the sentence.
"You're never going to let that one go, are you?"
She laughed again, once more coming to stand behind him and resting her chin on his shoulder.
"Not anytime soon, no."
