He followed the two into what seemed to be a police impound, he frowned and looked at the cars that was around. Most would think they travelled back in time or something. He stared down at his right hand and stared at the dragon ring. He still couldn't believe he was back here again and he had been trying to avoid this. He snapped out of his thoughts as the girl called out to him.
He tapped his foot impatiently as the police looked through some files; he looked to his right and saw Balthazar looking impatient aswell.
"I don't see why we couldn't take the eagle, it would be faster." AndthesoonerIcangetbacktomylife he thought the last part.
"True" The girl whispered back, "But its too high profile for downtown."
"You know you never told me your name" Dave stated curiously, the girl turned to look at her with a mock hurt.
"You remembered Balthazar but not me?" She sighed but smiled "Trinity Adams at your service."
"Nice to meet you Trinity" He smiled back.
"Ah here it is" He turned his attention towards the police officer "This way."
With that they followed him down the stairs, he was a little curious what kind of car Balthazar had, after all during the years he's been alive he should have saved up some money to get an amazing car! He could just picture it now, but once they stopped in front of the 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom, he stared in blank before turning to look at Trinity who was trying to hide her laughter probably thinking on the same line as he was. He just hoped it worked.
"You call this low profile?" Dave questioned watching the sorcerer who placed his hand on the hood with a smile.
"I'll call for a tow." The man said from behind them.
"That won't be necessary sir." Balthazar said kindly to the man while opening the driver's door and sat on the seat.
"That car's been down here for 15 years" The man said shaking his head, but stopped as he heard the car roared to life.
"She's missed me." Balthazar said with fondness.
The man simply shrugged and walked away muttering about impossible turning to possible, Dave stared at the man before shaking his head, he then turned to look at the car and saw Trinity occupying the seat at the back, with no choice he sat at the front and with that drove off.
He watched the sceneries while they drove through the streets of Manhattan wondering if he should've said no rather than yes. He looked out of the corner of his eye and gazed at Balthazar who stared ahead before looking back at the window.
"Let's get started on your lesson." He turned his gaze at Balthazar before humming an answer.
"Strictly Sorcery 101," Balthazar stated calmly "Put on the ring."
Dave stared at the dragon ring that lay flatly on his palm; he turned his gaze towards Balthazar who seemed to understand his hesitation.
"Nothing's going to happen," Balthazar assured him, with hesitation he slid the ring at the same time Balthazar swerved the car violently. "Kidding." He laughed.
"Sorcerers and their weird sense of humor" Trinity mumbled out loud making Dave chuckle.
"Now then, Sorcery is the ability to manipulate matter and energy on a molecular level." Balthazar lectured.
"Really?" Dave asked in disbelief.
"Ever heard how people only use ten percent of their brains?" Balthazar asked, without waiting for a reply he continued "Sorcerers are able to manipulate matters because they're born with the capability to use a hundred percent of their brains, which explains why sciences comes so easily to you."
"So wait, is sorcery science or magic?" Dave asked, genuinely confused.
"Yes, and yes." Balthazar answered.
They were stopped at a particularly long light so Balthazar decided to try a demonstration. "For now, all you need is a basic combat spell: Making fire."
Dave gave him a disbelief stare, Balthazar stared back before letting out a small chuckle, he remembered how physics comes easy to the young boy, and maybe he should do it that way.
"What causes molecules to heat up?" He asked.
"They vibrate" Dave answered simply still not knowing where this was going.
"Good, now here are the following steps." Balthazar said stopping at a particular area, he looked around for something to burn when he saw a police officer placing a ticket on a car, smiling he turned to Dave.
"You better listen closely because there will be a test on this."
Dave stared at him skepticism.
"No seriously there will be a test so listen up. Step one, clear your mind. Step two, see the molecules and step three make them vibrates."
Dave's mouth hung open as he stared at the ticket that Balthazar had set on fire, he chuckled as the police tried to put it out but instead made it worst, that was cool… he shook his head, he so couldn't do that!
"No! I definitely don't got it!"
"Trust the ring Dave" Balthazar stated calmly "Oh, and make sure to keep things subtle. Civilians can't know magic exists that would cause complication… trust me." With that they took off.
After a few minutes they were finally in China Town. He stared in awe as people wore kimonos and watched as tourist took pictures, he felt the car halt to a stop and looked at Balthazar who had stepped out, sighing he did the same thing.
"Alright" Balthazar turned to look at both of them. "Dave you and Trinity stay here and keep an eye out while I look for the Grim Holder." Without waiting for a reply he walked off into the building.
Dave turned to look at Trinity who was looking nervous for some reason, maybe she wasn't used to being in a crowded place, sighing he leaned against the car and hummed a small tune.
"So…" Dave trailed off gaining her attention "Lovely night we're having"
He smiled as Trinity let out a chuckle.
"Oh yes, it's splendid don't you think?" He rolled his eyes but hummed in reply.
"Why haven't you aged?" Trinity gave him an offended look "I mean you look great, but last time I saw you it was about ten years ago."
"I don't know it's probably because of the Urn or something… speaking of ten years ago, what have you been doing?"
"Oh this and that, that and this." He shrugged nonchantly not wanting to answer.
"Hmm, got a feeling that 'this and that' is not a good thing huh?" Dave stared at her for sometime before nodding his head and was about to comment when a man landing in front of them both.
The man had no shirt on showing his muscular body around his waist looked like a belt of some sort and wore baggy pants. In all he looked freaky with his pale white eyes-
"Dave" He looked up at Balthazar who stared down at him "You should run"
Before he could finish Trinity grabbed him and they rushed through the crowd, Dave heard a roar and gave a glance behind him making his eyes widen, shoot! A Dragon! He quickly speeded up to Trinity's side as they continued to push their way trying to find a place to hide.
"This way!" She turned to a building and opened the door running up the stairs; skidding to a stop he followed her.
"What happened- I thought- the man- he"
"That man that landed in front of you was Sun-Lok, a Morganean and it looks like Horvath had released him before Balthazar even entered the building."
He screamed as he saw the dragon climbing its way up the stairs after them, quickly he tried to catch up with Trinity who was already a stair ahead of him, damn that girl's fast he thought as he continued his way up, he saw her open a window and walked towards the ladder, he soon followed.
"This is bad" Dave muttered as they stared at dragon as spotted them and started to crawl its way towards them.
"The ring Dave!" Trinity whacked him on his shoulder snapping him out of it, he nodded and closed his eyes pointing the ring at the dragon, but no results.
"You've skipped the first them. Clear your mind." He heard Balthazar.
"Clear my mind? Are you insane?" Dave snapped back, he rolled his eyes as Balthazar nodded with a grin, taking a deep breath he cleared his mind and tried again.
Okay,seethemoleculesandmakethemvibrate, he thought repeatedly.
He heard a roar and opened his eyes and grinned as the dragon's tail caught on fire he couldn't help but let out a laugh of joy before crawling his way down the ladder and back into the building followed by Trinity.
She smiled as she watched him run up to Balthazar and grinned like the Cheshire cat.
"Did you see that?" Dave said excitedly at her and Balthazar before she could comment any further she noticed Hovart standing on the balcony that she and Balthazar had jumped out off, he seemed to be glaring at them with great despise in return she winked cheekily at him, at that moment police sirens suddenly echoed through the streets, turning around she saw Balthazar and Dave walking up towards the police with their own uniform, not wanting to miss out she joined them.
"It's alright fellas" Balthazar said raising his hand "Everything is under control."
"What happened?" He asked.
"Firework accident" Balthazar shrugged "They were having a street festival when one of them Chinese dragons went up like a roman candle. Me and my partner saw the whole thing." The police nodded before turning to Trinity.
"I'm here with my boyfriend thought it would be nice to see this festival" Trinity shrugged making sure to keep a straight face "What they said are true, dragon lit up next thing you know explosives."
"Where's your boyfriend?" He raised an eyebrow
"He's around here somewhere." She smiled pretending to look around.
"Hmm… a paper dragon… we got a call saying a realdragon." The police said looking back at Balthazar.
"Between you and me mate, I think some of these folks hitting the sakes a little too hard."
Trinity and Dave stared at each other confused as Balthazar and the police laughed.
"You know sake is not actually Japanese, not Chinese" Dave interrupted them making both of them look at Dave.
"Anyway…" Trinity said butting in "Take a look for yourselves gentlemen"
Trinity pointed behind her where all the confetti's were scattered and some burnt materials, she watched as the police nodded in agreement before walking away. Balthazar then turned to look at Dave before walking back to the car.
"Sake's Japanese." Balthazar muttered to Dave.
"Well it is!"
"I was in character" Balthazar then turned to look at her. "And you boyfriend? What were you thinking?"
"I was thinking I had a boyfriend." Trinity grinned
He stared at them as they hopped into the car. He narrowed his eyes at the two young adults. From watching a far he knew that the once ten year old boy would be the Prime Merlinean ever since he had killed the dragon. His concern was not only to get the Grim Hold and the Prime Merlinean, but also that girl named Trinity.
She seemed awfully familiar but he couldn't quite place it. The way she defended that kid ten years ago, the way she talked… everything about that girl screamed familiar, he punched his fist into the wall with range. He needed to do some research, but first things first. He needed help.
She had to restrain herself as she gazed at the beloved science lab which was now a training ground. It was always her dream to see this, she just couldn't believe it. She watched in awe as Balthazar flicked both of his hands making all Dave's experiments, including the tesla coils move away.
"Hey I was working on that!" Dave turned to look at Balthazar.
"Well, you have a new project," Balthazar grinned, "Oh, I forgot to give you this ten years ago."
Trinity approached the two and stood next to Dave as they both looked at the miniature book, or rather the Encantus.
"I swore it was a lot bigger." Dave mumbled looking at it.
Balthazar shrugged before unfolding it making the book bigger. He then gave it to Dave who was having trouble with lifting it up, Trinity rolled her eyes before letting out a yawn, she blushed as both of the sorcerer and his apprentice stared in amusement.
"What? It's been a tiring day" Trinity defended walking over to one of the sofas ignoring the chuckle from both of them, she leaned back and closed her eyes but still aware of her surroundings.
"Stand back," She heard Balthazar say, and soon after than Dave let out a shriek making her chuckle a little, but other than that still kept her eyes shut. She could imagine Balthazar drawing on symbols on floor, luminous green flames dancing around following the sorcerer's hand.
"This is the Merlin Circle." Balthazar announced looking at him. "Once you have entered this circle you will leave everything else behind."
"Maybe I should go to the toilet then… just incase" Balthazar stared at him "Or maybe I could just hold it in." Balthazar just shooked his head before signaling him to come stand in front of him
"I am Balthazar Blake, Sorcerer of the 777th degree and you are my apprentice."
"Sweet" Dave mumbled in awe.
He watched Balthazar- his master walk out of the Merlin Circle and walked towards Trinity who was curled up, he smiled as he watched Balthazar shrugged off his coat and placed it onto her. If he didn't know any better he'd say his master had a soft spot for her.
"Now that you are a sorcerer, you will need these" Balthazar chucked him a pair of shoes.
"These are old man shoes…" He said trying to hide his disgust
"Excuse me?" Looking up at Balthazar's shoes he tried to correct his previous comment.
"I love them…" He nodded "A lot"
"Another thing, open that bag." Dave looked at Balthazar for a second before doing what was asked of him, once he had opened it he turned to look at Balthazar with a confusion able stare.
"Put them on and we will then begin your training."
His voice was stern making Dave hurriedly put the materials on, he felt uncomfortable but decided not to complain for the time being, he watched as Balthazar walked around the circle lecturing him.
"Fire is a powerful tool for a sorcerer, which you have already seen. But when your back is up against a wall, there's only one weapon of choice, a plasma bolt."
Dave jumped as his master had sent a blue bolt towards a large fan. He had a feeling that today would be a long day. He tried to conjure up at least a small blue bolt for at least on an hour but only little sparks came out, he let out a groan of frustration and exhaustion.
Balthazar's voice echoed through the room making Dave let out another groan before starting again. Dave soon felt a little accomplishment since he was finally able to create a decent plasma bolt, now, he needed a target. Looking around he saw a vase, smiling he tried to blast the vase away but sadly he missed he tried again, this time one of the bolts had somehow blasted the cup that Balthazar was carrying, he didn't know whether to chuckle in amusement or run for his life as Balthazar glared at him, instead he walked away, with a shrug he continued his training
