"Jack!" The woman walked around the corner. "Got some time?"

"Well, well," said Jack playfully as he turned around. "I never thought you'd ask but-" He stopped mid-sentence. "Uh, no?"

She sighed. "If you have time to flirt, you have time to play cabbie. This young human here needs a ride. Since you're not being productive, take her where she needs to go."

Jack muttered a "yes ma'am" and motioned for the stranger to follow. Once around the corner, he smiled. "So Blondie, where do you need to be?"

"I don't know exactly."

"We'll have some fun then." He winked.

"Girl, don't believe a thing he says," a passing blue temp advised. "Jack will flirt with anything that moves."

He made an indignant sound. "That's Captain Jack Harkness." The temp just rolled her eyes and kept walking, as did the other two.

The blonde giggled. "So...you're bisexual?"

"I prefer 'omisexual.' There's more than humans in this universe."

"That's true," mused the passenger as Jack gestured to his ship. "I'm Jenny, by the way."

"Nice to meet you, Jenny."

He slipped into the pilot's seat and began to prepare the ship for flight. He barely noticed Jenny slip into the seat next to him.

"You've lost someone."

"What?" He coughed a little from shock. "Of course I have. Everyone's lost somebody. It's a fact of life."

Jenny leaned in a little closer. "But they weren't just 'a fact of life' to you, were they? You have the same look in your eyes that my father did. You wear your grief for everyone to see but where no one can." She paused and looked harder at Jack. "Who was he?"

He didn't answer.

She pulled back. "Fair enough." She smirked. "You may flirt with everything that moves but you only fall in love once."

"There was a girl, a woman, once. Before him. I died and she gave me life again. But she was someone else's, and then there was the problem of the parallel universe, so I joined Torchwood since I couldn't die and-where are we going again?"

Jenny didn't blink at the swift change in conversation. "I'm trying to find my father."

"The one who'd lost someone."

"He had lost everyone. And he thinks I'm dead. I've been running all over the universe, helping people and at the same time trying to find him. But I have no idea when or where he could be."

"Excuse me, did you say 'when he could be?'"

Jenny nodded.

"Who is your father?"

"They called him the Doctor."

Jack grinned widely. "Jenny, Jenny, Jenny, we are going to have so much fun!" He laughed. "Oh Doctor, I can't wait to see your face. Hmm, I wonder if it's a new one."

"You know my father?"

"He's an old friend."

With that, Jack took off.
