A/N: *gasp* A separate fic? When I haven't updated 'Can this Work?' Bad Kayla! Heh. No, this idea just popped into my head earlier and I just had to write it down. It has nothing to do with aforementioned other fic, it's just a little idea I just had to share with you guys. So enjoy! :]
They had just finished their show for the night and Chris was exhausted, but exhilarated at the same time. Why? Because it was his 21st birthday; he finally got to drink and have fun with the rest of his friends. In fact, that's what they were discussing at that very moment.
"You know guys," Darren said, "since it's his first time and all, don't you think someone should stay relatively sober to make sure he doesn't drink too much and then decide he's never going to again?"
"That's a good idea actually," Ashley said. "Which one of you is willing to stay sober so they can watch my baby?"
When no one volunteered Chris spoke up.
"It's all right guys," he said. "I don't really have to drink all that much."
"Oh no," Amber protested. "You have been waiting forever to be able to party with us; you aren't backing out now."
"I can do it," Darren spoke up.
Darren shrugged. "It's no big deal; I can be the one to watch he doesn't drink too much. I don't really feel like drinking tonight anyway."
"It's settled then," Lea said. "Now let's head down to the bar."
As they went down in a few different elevators, Chris was freaking out along the way.
Shit, he thought. What if I let my guard down when I'm drunk? Darren's going to see how much I've been pining over him now.
Without meaning to, Chris sighed.
"What's wrong?" Darren asked, hearing the sigh.
Chris scurried to come up with a plausible answer. "Oh – uh – nothing." Oh yeah, terribly clever, Chris.
Darren smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry," he said. "I'll make sure you don't do anything too embarrassing."
Chris attempted to smile back. "Thanks."
Darren clapped him on the back and said, "Let's go," as the elevator doors opened onto the lobby. They headed to the hotel bar, ending up beating everyone else.
As the night wore on, everybody was shoving their favorite drinks at Chris for him to try, Darren nursing a soda while laughing at the different faces Chris made at each one. After a few, Chris started to let down his inhibitions.
"Come on Darren," he slurred, "you've got to try this, it's delicious."
Darren laughed. "Thanks, but I'm good. I have to watch you anyhow."
Chris pouted. "You're no fun."
But then he brightened as a song came on that he liked. (They had begged the bartender to turn on the stereo, claiming it was too quiet for their taste.)
"Ooh I love this song! I wanna dance. Come on Darren, let's dance!" And grabbing Darren's hand and pulling him off his stool, they headed to the tiny "dance floor" the girls had cleared up for themselves.
Darren shook his head at Chris. "You dance as crazy as I do and that's saying something."
Chris grinned. "I love the way you dance, it's so silly. Your just a big old goober; an adorable goober."
"Thanks," Darren laughed, catching Chris as he stumbled.
Chris looked up at him. "I like your eyebrows; they're very triangular." He tilted his head as he continued to stare.
"Actually, I love your whole face," he amended. "I just wanna grab it in both hands and kiss those cute little lips." Then he proceeded to demonstrate what he meant, soliciting cat calls and whistles from the bar.
Pulling away, Darren blinked rapidly, trying to ignore how that kiss made him feel.
"All right you," he said. "I think you've had enough to drink. Time to go to bed."
"No~" Chris protested, yawning at just the mention of the word bed. "I don't want to, I'm not tired."
Darren dragged him gently out the bar and to the elevators. "Just that statement shows you are."
Chris sighed dramatically. "Fine, I guess I'll go to bed. But on one condition."
"What's that?" Darren said as they stepped into the elevator.
"I get to use you as a pillow," he demanded.
Darren looked over and saw that Chris was serious. So he smiled at him fondly and agreed to that.
Reaching their hotel room, Darren somehow managed to open the door without dropping Chris.
Shutting the door he said, "All right, time to change into your pajamas, brush your teeth, wash your face, and take an aspirin."
Chris rolled his eyes at him. "Yes mother," he grumbled as he stumbled around, grabbing the items he would need.
Darren just chuckled, getting himself ready for bed while Chris was in the bathroom.
When Chris emerged, he was all ready for bed. "Okay, snuggle time," he yawned.
Darren laughed as he settled onto the bed before motioning Chris over. "Sleepy?" he asked.
Chris hummed in agreement, lying down and wrapping his arms around Darren's torso, head resting on his chest.
"You're so comfy," he murmured, already drifting off.
Darren smiled, wrapping his own arms around Chris and kissing the top of his head.
"Sweet dreams," he whispered.
When Chris woke up in the morning, at first he didn't know where he was. Then, sitting up and looking around as his head throbbed painfully, he saw Darren sleeping next to him in the same bed.
What the hell…? he thought.
At that moment, Darren stirred, sitting up himself, tousling his hair.
"Morning sunshine," he said with a small smile. "How are we feeling this morning?"
"Gross," Chris croaked. "Confused."
Darren sighed. "I knew I should have made sure you took that aspirin," he said as he got up.
Chris cleared his throat and tried to convey his confusion. "Why… why were we in the same bed?"
"Oh, you said you wouldn't go to bed unless I agreed to cuddle with you," Darren said nonchalantly, searching for some clothes to wear.
Chris dropped his head in his hands and groaned. "Ugh what else did I do to embarrass myself?"
"How is that embarrassing?" Darren asked. "You just wanted some company. I know when I'm drunk I get really affectionate. Well, more than usual."
These next words Chris wished he could take back immediately. "Yeah, but you don't ask the guy you've had a major crush on for months to cuddle."
Darren stopped in the process of grabbing something out of his trunk and turned to Chris.
"What did you say?"
"I – uh – I mean -" Chris stumbled over his words, trying to think how he could repair the damage he's obviously caused.
Darren walked over slowly and sat on the bed next to Chris.
"Do you have feelings for me," he said, searching Chris' eyes, "as more than a friend?"
Chris nodded mutely, waiting for the blow up.
Darren seemed to consider his next words. "Last night, before I brought you up here, you kissed me."
At this Chris groaned and flopped back onto the pillows, covering his face with one in shame.
"No, just listen," Darren said, taking away the pillow and hauling Chris back up into a sitting position.
"You kissed me," he continued, "and I got this feeling that I've never felt before."
Chris just frowned in confusion, wondering where this was going.
"The kiss was kind of sloppy, since you were drunk," Darren said, "but there was feeling behind it. And those feelings, they scared me and exhilarated me at the same time."
"What do you mean?" Chris ventured to inquire.
Darren searched for a way to explain it. "It was like, when you kissed me, something inside of me just stirred, trying to wake up."
Chris still didn't get it.
Darren sighed in frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm not explaining this very well."
Then an idea came to mind. Leaning forward, Darren lightly took a hold of Chris' chin and placed a light kiss on his lips. Looking at each other, they both knew they had felt something. So, now taking a hold of Chris' face with both hands, Darren pulled him down into a kiss.
When their lips met, Chris gasped at the feeling, the way their lips fit together. This allowed for Darren to insert his tongue and explore Chris' mouth. Chris, deciding to take control, grabbed the back of Darren's neck, making Darren moan into his mouth, and pulled him up, leaning down into the kiss and deepening it.
At last, they both pulled away at the same time, placing their foreheads together and breathing heavily.
"That was…" Chris panted, searching for appropriate words.
"Amazing?" Darren supplied.
They both opened their eyes and looked at each other, grinning stupidly, before diving back in.
And that is it. Just a little one-shot to tide you guys over. And when I say that I mean it; I have the next five chapters of 'Can this Work?' written, I just haven't uploaded it yet because I should be working on my lit paper. So, for the next two weeks, that is what I shall be doing. Once I am finished, however, I shall try to update at a semi-regular pace around school and homework. Until then, just peruse the authors and stories I have in my favorites. :]
