August 6, 2011 – The Way It Should Be

Summary: **Part of the 2011 LiveJournal's Twisted Shorts August Fic-A-Day** series. Evil hunters commiserate over beers.

Challenge: for the livejournal 2011 August Fic a Day Challenge. And #6471 on TtH.

Timeline: post-season 2 'Phases' for BtVS; post-season 2 'Bloodlust' for Supernatural.

Warning: just two psychos bonding.

A/N: Didn't watch 'Bloodlust', so I'm guessing how things went by the episode summary.

"And then she had the audacity to ruin my gun by bending it," Cain slurred, pausing to finish his…something-th beer of the night. If he knew more than just hunting werewolves, he would have figured out a way to kill that thing. No way could she have been human! "I mean, can you believe her and her pervert of a boyfriend? 'Oh, they're humans most of the time!'" he said in a high-pitched girly voice. "That's a crappy defense for letting a monster go!"

"Preaching to the converted here, brother," his companion retorted, despite the fact they weren't brothers and didn't look anything alike – apart from the identical maniacal gleam in their eyes. "At least yours didn't try to save a vamp." He snorted, "Please! Just because they claim not to drink human blood, does that somehow mean they aren't evil? They're still vampires!" Gordon demanded rhetorically.

Cain still felt like he should answer anyway, "Really? They actually bought that line of crap? What's next? Heroic monsters who fight to protect humans?" he sneered.

Both men started laughing hysterically at the idea. It was just too insane to contemplate. Almost as bad as monsters being given civil rights under the law. The possibility of that happening crossed their minds at the same time, causing them to shudder.

"I suppose we should be grateful that most people are willing to dismiss everything supernatural," Gordon said. "Hate to see the day when the stuff we hunt is front page material."

"Here, here!" Cain agreed, raising his new bottle in a toast. "May we never have to get a license to kill the monsters!"

"And may the monster-lovers suffer horribly for their stupidity!" Gordon added, tapping his bottle against the other hunter's, then swallowing the contents.

At the other end of the bar, Ellen Harvelle leaned over to her friend, Ash, and commented, "Those two give me the creeps. Something tells me that if there weren't demons to hunt, they'd be serial killers instead." Ash's reply was just to nod in agreement.

A/N: Part of me wanted to intro Edward (Anita Blake) into the scene, but it was more important to me to leave this as a single crossover.

Tomorrow's (hopeful) fic: Cassie/X-Men.
