A/N: Hi. I really don't own Merlin, but owning Arthur's Abs of Glory would be pretty sweet. Anyways, here's your story.
Everyone who cared about Merlin, or Arthur, or both, had noticed.
There was a definite rift growing between Merlin and Arthur. Merlin did everything he could to stop it, but he couldn't.
It was power, see? Arthur was a very good man, the keyword being was.
Power always corrupts, there's no fighting it. It was even happening to Merlin, though at a much slower rate.
There was something cold in Arthur's eyes now. Something deadly, something that says, 'If you mess with me, I will burn the heart out of you.'
Of course, he did have that before, but only when someone he loved was being threatened.
Now it's constant.
Most everyone hears Gwen crying at night, for a reason that none of them want to believe.
Gwen sought refuge. Merlin could only help to a point, in a brotherly way.
But now she's found someone better. Someone new.
But one day, she was too careless with her knight, and Arthur noticed.
The old him would have banished Lancelot, and kept Gwen under surveillance all the time, but this isn't the old him.
The new him burnt both of them, looking amused.
The people who once cared about him were scared to go near him, or do anything wrong.
For God's sake, Gwaine even gave up drinking!
Morgana came to Merlin in the middle of the night, waking him up.
"You talk in your sleep, did you know that?" she asked.
"What'd I say?" he said, groggily.
"You were repeating 'the darkest hour is just before the dawn' over and over. Bad mindset to have, really, Arthur's not going to change."
"Let me think. You're going to say that the only way to 'save the kingdom and the rest of the people I love is to storm Camelot and put you in charge'."
"You're getting good. " Morgana said, smiling.
"Well, this is the 5th time you've offered."
"Look. He killed Gwen; he will not hesitate to kill you."
"Which makes it more dangerous for me to help you. " Merlin said, eyebrows raised at her stabbing herself in the foot.
Morgana narrowed her eyes.
"Fine. But don't be surprised when you die!" she said, and disappeared.
Merlin woke up the next morning to the sound of Gwaine getting his head cut off.
Merlin fell off his bed and onto the stone floor. It felt better.
Why was life worth anything, anymore?
He had obviously failed destiny in a major way.
Death should come.
He ran there, to the place only they knew.
Hurled himself in her waters, forced himself to drown.
When he opened his eyes, Freya was there, smiling sadly.
"I knew you'd come." she said, and Merlin smiled.
A/N: Okay, so it probably sucked, but please review!
