Alec rounded on Magnus. "What do you mean?"
Magnus pulled his scarf tighter around his neck. He looked around at the other people. "We have to go back. She'll only talk to me and me alone."
Alec bit his lip. "And how do you know her?"
Magnus looked at him. "When you live as long as I have, Alexander, you tend to get to know your fellow immortals."
Alec wanted to ask more, but didn't.
"Besides, since this vacation got cut short, I guess we'll just have to take another one," Magnus added.
Alec said nothing.
"I was thinking of going south next time," Magnus continued, ignoring him. "I'm getting tired of the North. What about you?"
Magnus kissed him. "If you're worried about what your family is going to say-."
"They won't say anything," Alec snapped. "They think and/or hope that this is just a phase and I'll get over it."
Alec looked Magnus right in the eye. "No."
"Will you get over it?"
"So, it's not a phase?"
Magnus nodded. "How long have you known?"
"A few years."
"It took you that long to come out?"
Alec shook his head. "Apparently, everyone else knew, but my parents."
"So, not really a big secret?"
"It was supposed to be," Alec muttered.
Magnus pulled him out of the opera area. "I think there's a Portal around here somewhere."
Alec just stood there and waited. Magnus had been kind of hoping that he would help him, but he knew that would never happen. When Alec was like this there was no getting him out of the mood. To the normal bystander, Alec didn't look mad. He had the ability to keep his facial expressions indifferent. He looked, well, calm.
But, Magnus knew different. He knew for a fact that Alec was fuming.
And, probably, worried.
Magnus found a Portal. He grabbed Alec again. "I'll stand by you, no matter what."
Magnus pulled them through into the unknown.
