"Erica, how did you even get us into this party" I ask talking over the loud music.
"That's for me to know and you to never find out" she replies as she pulls me by the arm to the dance floor. "Hey, is that James Maslow" I ask calmly, but inside I'm extremely excited. I pull Erica back a second to pause. She takes a look a around and it only takes her a brief second to start walking towards him.
"We can't just run up to him like a couple of fangirls. We'll get kicked out" I exclaimed. She stops and finally let's go of my arm, "You're right. We'll dance towards him" she says as if it was the best idea she's ever came up with.
In the middle of her dancing I lean over to her with urgency, "I think he's looking at me.
"Then go talk to him. It'll be fine just don't be awkward"
"I wish it was that easy, but we can't risk getting caught."
"That's your problem then."she says as she shuffles off into the large crowd.
I glance behind me realizing he's definitely staring at me. Pretending to search for someone I feel a hand on my shoulder and I freeze up.
"I think you have the wrong person" I say as I try to continue walking away and gazing around the room.
"No, I'm pretty sure I've got the right person. You're beautiful by the way. He clears his throat excuse me, I must introduce myself. I'm James, and you are?"
I turn around and look down not having any courage to even speak.
"Your name" he repeats.
I can feel him staring at me, "Juliet" I force myself to speak slowly raising my head to face him.
"Yeah well nice to meet you. I should really go now."
Before I get a chance to get away from this mess I was about to get into he speaks happily and sort of in a rush, "Wait, one dance? Please?"
"I'm not really a dancer" I lied. I'm not the greatest dancer, but I'm good enough to get through it.
"You don't have to be" he puts his arm around my waist "I'll teach you".
Suddenly I feel nervous not that I wasn't before, but it got a thousand times worse. Without warning he gently grabs a hold of my hand and we make our way to the very middle of the room.
"What are we doing here?"
"We're going to dance together."
We dance for a minute casually you know like you do at a club. Not that I would know anything about that, but like you see in those movies where everyone has their hands up and stuff. Girls wore short shorts paired with crop tops that hardly covered anything surrounded him to the point where I could easily get away and he would never notice. The music fades out and I turn around trying to walk off again until I'm stopped with a hand reaching out grasping my shoulder lightly.
"Where do you think you're going" he questions me as if I was doing something wrong.
I quickly turn around and make up something, "The song is over so I thought" my voice trails off as I glance towards the group of girls. One was wearing layers makeup and had on a very revealing black dress with her boobs nearly falling out of the low neck line. Her hair was a shade of blonde, but I couldn't tell because of the bad lighting. I glance back at him "I just thought it was time for me to go"
"Just one more song please?"
"Yeah sure I guess"
"Come on I want to show you something" he grabs my hand and pulls me with excitement.
"Where are we going?"
"Somewhere special. You'll love it I promise."
We walk through a long hallway then into a set of double doors.
"What is this place" I ask looking around at the small stage. The dance floor was polished and looked to be brand new. There wasn't much to look at but it felt nice to get away from the big crowd.
"It's a smaller venue. It's used for intimate acoustic shows"
"Have you played here before?"
"Not yet, but I'm sure I will someday. Now let's do what we came here for." He reaches into his pocket for his phone and as if I didn't see it coming a slow song starts playing.
His strong arms suddenly wrap around my back and I rest my hands on his shoulder. It came so easily to me like I know what to do. I guess maybe I've been picturing it in my head for far too long. Never thought this would happen at least not with him. Three minutes went by so quick I didn't want it to end. I pick my head up from his chest.
"I guess it's time for me to go huh?"
"No, not yet."
We head over to a pair of stoles that sit on the stage.
"How did you get in here" he asks casually.
"Was just lucky that I know the guy that owns this place" I lied as I started to remember how I'm not even supposed to be here. How could I have been stupid to let him take me here. I should have left when I had the chance.
"So how did you really get in here" he repeats giving me a chance to tell the truth.
"My friend got us in, but I have no idea how. She wouldn't tell me" I stand up and start heading off stage.
"I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't be here. I need to go now. Sorry for wasting your time."
"No, don't go. I don't care about how you got in. I'm just glad I had a chance to hang out with you.
I turn back to him in disbelief; he's lying.
"Why me? Don't you like those other girls? I'm nothing like them I'm not pretty or anything."
"And that's why I like you, because you're different. I think you're beautiful. There's just something about you that I can't quiet put my finger on yet, but I do know that you are definitely special" he takes a soft grasp on my hand and looks me straight in the eyes.
"I have plans on going to the beach tomorrow to surf and was wondering if you'd want to come along."
"I'm not sure that's a good idea."
"And why is that?"
I don't know how to surf"
"Well that's great I can teach you. It'll be fun I promise.
I grace towards the doorway where I see Erica's head pop in looking at me with urgency. I give here a look to make here go away. When she finally does he looks behind himself.
"Was someone there?"
"No, but uhh yeah I'll tag along with you tomorrow."
I pull out my phone to look at the time and he pulls his out and hands it to me, "What's this for?"
I thought you were trying to let me give you my number."
"Oh no, I was just trying to see the time."
I dial in my name and number on his phone and had it back.
"I'll see you tomorrow"
"I'll text you soon so you'll have my number too.
I walk out the double doors to see that Erica was still hiding in the hallway.
"What the hell just happened in there" she asks in an excited whisper.
"Nothing, he just asked for my number that's all."
"Girl, you have to tell me what really happened."
"Later, let's just get home."
