So, what ever happened to Penumbra, that fabled Umbra sequel?

Have you been waiting for it for FIVE YEARS?

I'm sorry it's taken so long, and I'm sure that a lot of old fans of Umbra - and Gundam Wing - have moved on to other fandoms.

I've taken several writing hiatuses over the past five years, and I've had some major life changes - personally and professionally.

When I first wrote Umbra, I was in the first year of a tenure-track faculty position at a small liberal arts college way down south. I left it last May, after five years of work that represented the highlights - and absolute nightmares - of my life. I was passionate about the work and the students.

But then my husband took a job nine hundred miles away and we decided to start a family.

I now have a daughter - almost nine months old - and I'm trying to cobble together part-time teaching and freelance work. It's been tough, really tough, but I've decided to focus more on my writing - my fanfiction and my original fiction.

To that end, I've started a page ( dot com backslash ClaraBarton) asking for support from my readers. I've tried to make the rewards worthwhile, and I hope that there are folks out there who have the money to be able to support this endeavor.

But back to Penumbra - I haven't forgotten about it (and by the way, I'm assuming you've read Revenant? The prequel to Umbra that actually sets up Penumbra?).

In fact, I'm adding this epilogue to Umbra because, with your help, I'd like to sit down and start writing it.

If I can meet my monthly goal, I'm going to start writing Penumbra. That might seem a little unfair, a little mercenary even, and if that upsets you and I lose you as a fan forever, then I will be sorry to see you go.

But, as I state on my page, if I can make that monthly goal, it will pay for my daughter's diapers and baby food.

Not to mention, in addition to YOUR support making Penumbra happen, there are some pretty sweet deals for you - support levels are as low as $2 a month, and each level comes with some sweet perks, from exclusive one-shots to voting on fic updates to personal one-shots and more.

So… not to put too fine a point on it, but I'd love to start writing Penumbra, and I'd love to have your help.

Thank you all for your continued support.
