Chapter 2: Welcome to the Wizarding World.
Since Danny did not know when the professor was going to come, he had packed and brought his things downstairs in the morning.
At around noon, someone knocked on the door. When Danny opened it, a man in long, dark robes was at the door.
"Mr. Fenton?" He asked.
"Yes. And I'm guessing you're the Hogwarts professor?
"Yes. Professor Severus Snape." Snape said, "Now grab your things, say your goodbyes, and let's leave." Danny went downstairs into the lab were his parents were and said goodbye.
"I think I'll be seeing you guys at Christmas." He said, as his parents gave him a hug.
"Bye mom and Dad." Danny was about to go back upstairs when his sister walked down the stairs and gave him a hug.
"Goodbye little brother." Jazz said, and then whispered, "We'll take care of any ghosts." Danny nodded and went upstairs. When he got to the door, Snape was waiting.
"Done yet?" He asked.
"Yeah." Danny grabbed his stuff and left with him. After Danny closed the door, Snape led him to a dark alley, and asked him.
"Do you have an answer for the Order?" Snape asked him.
"Yes I do," Danny said, "I'll join if nobody but those in the Order knows my secret."
"That can be done." Snape said as he waived his wand and Danny's luggage disappeared.
"What happened to my stuff?" Danny asked him.
"Your luggage has been transported to the headquarters." Snape told him, "We first need to bring you to Diagon Alley to get all the equipment you'll need for years one through five at Hogwarts." Danny raised an eyebrow.
"How much is it going to cost me?" Danny asked and Snape just rolled his eyes.
"Since you are a relative of Mr. Harry Potter, I'm sure he won't mind us using his vault." He told Danny, "Grab my hand." Danny did so.
It felt like he was being squeezed through a pipe, and then it ended, and they were in a town with shops everywhere. Danny felt like he was going to vomit as he leaned up against the wall.
"Is it always like that?" Danny asked. Snape just motioned at him to follow him and walked down the streat.
The first thing they did was go to a bank called Gringotts. It was very strange for Danny; he had never been at a bank like this. With strange creatures (goblins) running the bank, and there was something almost like a roller coaster ride down to a vault that had TONS of coins in hit. Snape took a large pouch out of his pocket and put a couple of handfuls of the golden coins into it.
"First on the list…"Danny read, "Is, a wand." Danny looked to Snape. "Where do I go to get a wand?"
"Why don't you pay attention to your surroundings, Mr. Fenton?" He said, motioning to one of the buildings. Danny turned around, and read the sign.
"Oh…" Ollivander's Wand Shop.
"Here are some of the galleons. I will be at the book store when you're done." Snape handed him a handful of the coins and spun around and headed over to another building. Danny looked up at the sign again, and headed inside.
The walls on the inside of the building was stacked with boxes, there wasn't one open spot. Even the stairs had boxes on them. At the desk in the middle of the room, was a wild gray haired man, writing something down.
As Danny approached him, the man looked up.
"I'm, um, here to buy a wand." Danny said, and the old man smiled.
"Of course you are." The man looked Danny up and down. "I've never seen you before, is this your first wand?" Danny nodded. "Most wizards come here when their eleven."
"My Hogwarts letter was delayed." He told the man.
"Well then, welcome to the wizarding world. I'm Ollivander." He held his hand out and Danny shook it. "What's your name, then?"
"Um… I'm right handed…" He said as Ollivander lifted Danny's right hand and measured it from shoulder to finger, then measured wrist to elbow, around his head, shoulder to floor, knee to armpit, right foot to right eye, etc.
He stepped away from Danny, and, oddly enough, the tape measure kept measure him.
"You see, Mr. Fenton," Mr. Ollivander said as he shifted through boxes, "No two Ollivander's wands are alike, with different magical cores; such as phoenix feather, unicorn tail hair, and dragon heart string…" He stopped at a box and pulled it out.
"Willow with phoenix feather; rather springy." He gave Danny the wand, and he just stared at it.
"Well… thanks. How much will this cost?" Danny asked him. Ollivander just shook his head.
"No, no, no." He told him, "Wave it!" Danny did so, and a bunch of boxes fell off the shell. "No…" he grabbed the wand back from Danny and started to walk around the shop.
"Try this." Ollivander said as he walked out from behind a shelf, handing him the wand. "Yew, dragon heartstring, good for defense."
Danny waved the wand and a gust of wind blew them both off their feat. Ollivander sighed and took the wand from Danny.
For the next thirty minutes, Danny would wave wand after wand, none of them responding remotely well. The room was continuously wrecked and fixed again, then wrecked… until finally, Ollivander spoke up.
"You are a very troublesome case, Mr. Fenton." He had a look of curiosity as he put his finger up. "But perhaps… I shouldn't look at my normal collection." He opened his desk and took out a key. At the flick of his wand a small portion of the boxes moved from the wall onto his desk, revealing a small door.
He pointed his wand at the door knob, muttered something under his breath, moved it over to the other side of the door, and put the key in the lock. In the door were more wand boxes.
"You see Danny," He said, "When I first entered the wand business, I had experimented with wands based on… legends." He slid a very old box out, and removed the wand from it. "And this, is the most abnormal wand I have made." He handed the wand to Danny. "Oak, with a thestral tail hair."
Danny waved the wand, and he felt a warm feeling flow throughout him, along with his wand taking a slight neon green glow, before it died down again. Ollivander had a perplexed and pleased look on his face.
"And there you are." He said. Danny looked up at him.
"What's abnormal about it?" He asked him.
"Well you see Danny, the oak has a very long life; and to some, because of so, is considered to be the tree of life." He repacked Danny's wand as he spoke, "And yet thestrals only appear to those who have witnessed, and fully accepted, the concept of death. Life and death, combined. Normally, this shouldn't work; but with this one wand it combines perfectly."
Well look at that, Danny thought, Life and death together again. He thanked Ollivander, gave him eight galleons for the wand, and left. Snape was waiting for him outside, with his hands behind his back, and a pile of books and equipment with him. Danny nodded thanks to Snape, who didn't respond, and checked his list. All that he had left were ropes and the option of a pet.
To cut a long story short, he went Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, explain to the confused owner that this was his first time getting fitted for robes at all, and he left with his fitted robes.
When he got to Eeylop's Owl Emporium, he looked around for a while before a brown Eagle Owl went into a staring contest with Danny, and the owl won. He purchased him, and walked up to Snape. Danny nodded, and stuck out his hand.
Danny braced himself as he grabbed his hand, and the pipe feeling overcame him once again. When it was over, he didn't feel as bad as last time. They were in an untidy yard of an unwelcome-looking house with broken windows. Snape handed Danny a slip of paper.
"Read this, but not aloud." He said.
The headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix may be found at number twelve, Grimmauld Place, London.
Danny dropped the paper in surprise as it lit up in flames. After the panic was over, he looked up, but didn't see the address. He was standing in front of number eleven, and beside that number ten and thirteen Grimmauld Place. No twelve.
"Wait, where's the…" Danny started, but was interrupted by Snape:
"Think of it." And Danny did. The ground began rumbling as a whole other house began to appear. Snape swiftly walked up to the door and entered. Danny just stood in shock at the newly appeared house.
Well, this is the wizarding world. Danny thought as he picked up purchases and walked into number twelve, Grimmauld Place.
A/N: I never thought I'd get to this with school and stuff, but seriously, I'm sorry I haven't updated for a while. With any of my stories. Please review and tell me what you think, burns can be taken.
