Ranger School barracks

Forrest Gates sat on his bunk, looking at the two assignments he was offered after he graduated Ranger School. The one for that Clark guy who watched him on the sniper field sounded exciting and dangerous. Plus there was the bonus of getting to have his choice of assignments when it was over…that was a definite perk.

The other offer confused him more than a little. What he was told that he was supposed to go undercover at some college in California. On the pro side, it would put him in the green-to-gold program, and he'd finish as an officer – with his college paid for. But why?

Clark and his mission that required Spanish-speaking spec ops guys or Walsh and her mission that required young men who could pass as college students. Both were secretive as hell, but the California one made absolutely no sense to him.

Did the state of California leave the union and the news services forgot to mention it?

Sure, sometimes he thought they might be from a different planet because of the strange things he heard about them, but he doubted it was bad enough that they had to infiltrate their universities.

Of course, another way to look at it was he could be with coeds or in some hot, dirty place (just a guess on his part) where the people spoke Spanish. Studying all night with young babes or risking his life every night. Getting some *grunt, grunt* action, or getting some action.

Ehh, Clark's assignment had to be more exciting than Walsh's. How scary could things get in a town called Sunnydale?

And who knows…maybe he could still join the other mission when Clark's was completed. With that, he picked up the paperwork for the Spanish assignment and signed every place that was marked.

A/N: Sorry about the mix up, but my computer crashed with Giles' story on it.

Tomorrow's (hopeful) fic: Giles/Leverage…assuming I get my 'puter back.
