She knew she couldn't trust him. She knew it would come to this. But why? Why couldn't he be happy with what he had? Why couldn't he be happy with her?
Instead he had to go chasing after Rose. Rose was her favorite cousin! But he decided he wanted blue, not brown. Smart, not cheerful. Poet, not artist.
So she was left behind, because Scorpius loved Rose. She knew it, of course. She knew it from the moment they started dating. But then he had to go and discover that he liked Rose.
So poor little Lily Luna Potter, all smiles and fire and bright day was left sitting in the rainy darkness, letting the water pour over her, drenching her and hopefully purging all of Scorpius from her mind.
"Lily?" a rough voice asked. "Why are you sitting out here? You'll catch a cold."
"Go away," she said.
"Lily, what's wrong?" She heard him sit down next to her.
Suddenly, she couldn't hold it all in anymore. It all came out. Rose, Scorpius, Lucy's suicide, how she was thinking of following her, everything. And he listened. He just sat there and listened to her speak until she was too exhausted to continue.
She looked into his gentle face, and didn't protest when he leaned down and softly kissed her on the lips.
"I'm sorry, Lily," he said softly.
"Me too," she replied.
This time it was her who reached up to start the kiss. He may not have been Scorpius, but he was something. He was Lysander. And she was Lily. It wasn't love, but it was something. And she could settle for "something."
