Chapter 1 : A New Day
It was the first day of school on my second year at Longbourn College. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. Of course I didn't hear any of that while I was hiding under the covers, using my impressive mind powers to turn off my alarm clock.
The clock silenced. For a moment I thought I was just that talented, but then I heard my sister's cheery voice.
"Good morning, Lizzy. It's time to wake up."
I grumbled and turned. "What time is it?"
I grumbled again. "It's way too early to be jolly"
She chuckled. "Get up, we need to catch the bus in a half hour"
"When did you get bossy?"
"What can I say, you're a bad influence"
She left and I dragged myself up. I quickly dressed and went down-stairs. Half-way down, my sister Lydia dramatically gasped.
"You're not actually wearing that to school, are you?" Lydia said without even trying to cover her disgust while pointing at my clothes.
I looked down on my ripped blue-jeans and my hooded, red sweatshirt.
"I actually am"
"Oh my God! Don't you care about us at all? How can we ever become a part of the cool crowd if you keep embarrassing us like this?"
I rolled my eyes.
"You do enough of that yourself, my dear, you don't need Lizzy's help." My father said behind me.
I laughed as Lydia started to yell. My mother soon joined in the yelling. Saying something about me, my attitude and her 'poor nerves'.
Jane and I walked out of the house and came across our friend Charlotte, who had her freshman sister Maria in tow.
"How are you doing this morning, my lovelies?" Charlotte said.
"Fine" Jane and I said.
"What do you think Caroline will be dressed in today? A pink tank top with pink short-shorts? A pink tutu and a bra? A flamingo costume, perhaps?" she asked, her voice dripping with humour.
"I heard that orange was the queen-bee's new colour." I said.
"Orange? That must be why I saw her sporting that orange tan look."
"She should really watch where she steps around those Doritos, they can be quite hazardous." I said dryly and Charlotte laughed.
"Don't be so judgemental girls. I'm sure she's a nice girl. She's just misunderstood"
"You're just saying that because you have a crush on her brother" I teased.
"No I don't!" she said and blushed.
"Riiiiiiiiiiiiiigh" Charlotte and I said in disbelieve.
"He's just a nice guy. I don't even know him that well. And he would never be interested in me"
"Oh please. You are the nicest person I know, Jane. Not to mention the prettiest" I said.
She blushed and denied it.
"Learn how to take a compliment, girl! You're going to hear a lot of them." Charlotte stated as the bus arrived.
Once in the bus, we started comparing our schedules.
"Oh look, Char, we have English together." Jane said.
"I have no classes with either of you" I said sadly.
"That sucks man." Charlotte said. "Well, we can always see each other during recess"
"Yeah. You can fill me in on the Charlie/Jane gossip then"
Jane blushed and hit my arm.
When we came to school, the first thing we noticed was an orange car. Caroline and Louisa Bingley stepped out of it. Caroline was sporting orange pants with a white shirt and an orange scarf. From the car next to them came their brother Charles and his friend William Darcy. As soon as the latter stepped out, Caroline started fawning over him. She had been in love with his money ever since they met and had tried to get her hands on them, even though she was loaded herself. He had always fought away her claws but never succeeded.
It wasn't until Darcy's eyes met mine that I realized that me and the girls were staring at them.
"Let's go" I dragged them into the school.
My sister, Kitty appeared out of nowhere.
"Do you know where room 43 is?" she asked like a true freshman.
"Hey, I'm going there too!" Maria spoke up for the first time that day.
"Walk down the hall and turn left." Jane told them.
Kitty and Maria thanked her and left.
"What are your first periods?" Charlotte asked us.
"I have Biology" Jane said.
"French" I said, "You?"
The bell rang and we left for our classes. I bumped straight into something hard after turning to leave. The thing cleared its throat and I realized that it was indeed a person. I looked up to see two familiar brown eyes looking at me.
"Hello Lizzy." his deep voice said.
I know it's a bit short but I would really appreciate it if you would review and tell me what you think. =D
