Where Have You Been, Miles O'Brien?

by Susan M. M.

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Author's Note: A filksong to the tune of "Where Have You Been, Billy Boy?" I think this was previously published, and I thought there was a second verse to it, but I can't find the APA or 'zine it was in, and I've got Frank Hayes disease when it comes to verse two. I tried to reconstruct the 2nd verse: which version do you like better? It's not listed on Xenofilkia's index, so it was probably in SWAPA or Mutations. Standard disclaimer that wouldn't last ten seconds in a court of law: Neither Miles O'Brien nor Keiko Ishikawa O'Brien are my characters, just borrowing 'em, and will return to the original owners relatively undamaged. What? What's Frank Hayes disease? Oh, that's when a filker forgets lyrics he himself wrote. Filk Hall of Fame member Frank Hayes has a tendency to be a smidgen forgetful whilst performing.

Where have you been, Miles O'Brien, Miles O'Brien?

Where have you been, Chief O'Brien?

I have been to see my wife.

She's the darling of my life,

But she's working and can't leave Hydroponics.

Can she bake a cherry pie, Miles O'Brien, Miles O'Brien?

Can she bake a cherry pie, Chief O'Brien?

Alas, she can't bake cherry pie,

But her sushi, my, oh, my!

But she's working and can't leave Hydroponics.

Can she bake a cherry pie, Miles O'Brien, Miles O'Brien?

Can she bake a cherry pie, Chief O'Brien?

She can splice a cherry tree

With some fruit from Rigel III,

But she's working and can't leave Hydroponics.
