I Almost Lost You
Leroy and Hiram Berry stared at the TV in shock. They were silent as they watched their daughter, Rachel Berry, walk down the stairs. "Morning." she whispered. She'd been depressed since her fiancee, Santana Lopez had gone to fight in the war. They'd gotten engaged just before she left.
"Rach, will you marry me?" Santana asked, holding out a diamond ring. Rachel gaped at it.
"Tana... are you sure?" Rachel asked. Santana nodded.
"Baby, I want you to wait for me." she whispered. Rachel nodded.
"Always. Yes, I'll marry you, Santana." Rachel said before kissing the Latina.
"I love you, Rach."
"I love you too, Tana." Rachel said.
"Rachel, sweetie, has Santana called lately?" Leroy asked. Rachel shook her head.
"Not in the last couple of days. I can't help but think the worst." she admitted. Hiram closed his eyes. "What's going on? Dad? Daddy?" she said.
"Sweetie, it seems... Santana's unit was attacked. Its unknown how many survived." Leroy said. Rachel's back hit the wall.
"No. No!" she screamed, tears running down her face. Her fathers rushed over.
"Baby, we're so sorry. So sorry." Hiram whispered. Rachel shook her head, crying furiously.
"We're supposed to be together forever. She's supposed to come back to me!" Rachel yelled.
"I know sweetie." Leroy said.
"We had plans! Why? Why did this happen?" Rachel asked.
"I have no idea, honey." Hiram said. Rachel finally stopped shaking as the doorbell rang
"I'll get it." Leroy said.
"Tell whoever it is to go the hell away. I don't want to see anyone right now." Rachel said. Leroy walked into the hallway and opened the door. When he saw who was on the other side, he gasped. Pulling the Latina into a hug, he cried.
"She thinks you're dead." he whispered. Santana pulled back.
"Why?" she asked quietly.
"There was something on TV. Your unit got attacked." he explained. She closed her eyes and entered the house.
"I heard. I was already back in the States when it happened. We landed in D.C. and I had to wait for plane back to Lima." Santana said.
"I'm so happy you're okay." Leroy said.
"Thanks." Santana said. Rachel entered the hallway.
"Dad, I told you to to get rid of..." Rachel trailed off when she saw the Latina. "Tana?" she whispered. Santana smiled through her tears and dropped her bag on the floor. "What... How... Santana?" she asked.
"Baby..." Santana whispered, closing the distance between them and pulled the diva into a hug. "I love you so much." she whispered. She leaned up against the wall and allowed the two of them to slide to the floor. She pulled Rachel into her lap and put her forehead to the smaller girl's.
"I thought you were never coming back." Rachel said. Santana smiled.
"And miss out on all the craziness and drama that is Rachel Berry? Never." Santana said. Rachel laughed quietly. "I'll always come back to you. I'm going to marry you, Rachel. No war is going to get in the way of that." Santana promised. Rachel nodded.
"I almost lost you." Rachel said. Santana cried.
"It'll never happen again. I promise." Santana said. Rachel began crying as well.
"How long are you home for?" Rachel asked.
"Forever. I got hurt... I'll never be able to pass my physical to go back." Santana said. Rachel nodded.
"I'm sorry you got hurt... but I'm glad you can't go back. I missed you too much." she whispered.
"I missed you too. I'm glad I get to come home to you, Rach." Santana said. Rachel smiled. "I love you, Rach."
"I love you too, Tana." Rachel whispered.
