Three years ago.
That's how long it had been since he had passed away but to her, it felt like an eternity.
His ashes were still sat on the top of the fireplace amongst the various framed photographs of their children and their wedding. If anyone had told her fifteen years ago that she'd end up marrying the person she hated, she wouldn't have believed them.
But it was true. She did marry the person she hated all because of love. They had three beautiful children together, Imogen, Clara and Jacob. Imogen died when she was seven from a rare form of cancer and her death briefly tore their family apart.
They reunited a couple of months later and brought up the twins as best as they could. They did until the twins were ten and Michael began getting chest pains. It was no surprise to Roisin when the Doctor told her he had cancer. She knew deep down cancer had struck her family for a second time but she just hoped that it hadn't.
But it wasn't cancer that killed Michael Walker.
He was stabbed to death in a random attack. Roisin didn't think it was a random attack; Michael Walker had too many enemies for that.
One day she picked up the ashes and went to the lake nearby. They'd never spoken about death in the whole time they were together so she opted to have him cremated rather than buried.
She took off the lid of the jar and poured his ashes into a lake.
"I love you." She whispered and in that moment, she felt a shiver run down her spine. It was almost like he was there, stood with her watching her set him free.
But things like that were a cliché right?
