Colin stared at the clock as it slowly turned towards the end of the lesson. His stomach slowly turned over with fear and he practically begged the clock to reach the end of the lesson. But the hand seemed practically stuck in position.

"What a time for time to freeze." he murmured under his breath. "Five minutes from the end of History of Magic and I'm stuck in this moment forever."

Eventually though, the bell rang and with a clatter, the class got up and left. Colin stopped the moment to try and compose himself. He'd had a crush on this person since before he had arrived at Hogwart's, but it was only now, with the Yule Ball approaching, that he dared ask. Spotting the object of his affections, Colin stepped forward.

"Hi Harry!" he exclaimed and mentally cringed. He sounded so…fanboy-ish.

"Hello Colin."

"Could I…have a word in private with you please?" Colin asked nervously as he glanced at Ron and Hermione who were standing to one side and looking at him curiously.

"Okay." Harry said, clearly puzzled by Colin's behaviour. He turned towards Hermione and Ron. "I'll see you at lunch." He told them. Then he turned back to Colin. "Now what d'you want to talk to me about?"

"Well…I was wondering…"

"Yes?" Harry prompted, now looking at Colin with considerable curiosity.

"I was wondering…" Colin paused for a moment and cleared his throat. "WILL YOU GO TO THE BALL WITH ME!" he practically shouted and suddenly his face turned red as various other students around them turned to stare curiously. Harry also started to turn red and for a few moments, just stared at Colin like he had gone crazy.

"Pardon?" he asked in a disbelieving tone and Colin blushed even harder.

"I was wondering if you would go to the Yule ball with me. As my date." Colin replied and mentally cringed under the stares of the people around them. Harry looked at Colin with a stunned expression. After what felt like an eternity, Harry finally spoke.

"Ummm…I'm sorry Colin, but I'm not gay." Harry said, still blushing with embarrassment. Colin felt his stomach fill with lead and plummet to his shoes.

"Oh. Okay. Well, Seeya Harry!" he said, determined to not start crying in front of his idol. Spinning round on his heel, Colin ran off. Harry, still feeling somewhat stunned by Colin's declaration stumbled to the Great Hall.

"Hey mate, what's up?" Ron asked as Harry sat down.

"I've just been asked to the Yule Ball." Harry said in a numb voice.

"It's not the first time a girl has asked you to the ball." Ron replied, and Harry looked Ron in the eye.

"No, but it's the first time a BOY has asked me." Harry said. For a moment, there was complete silence from the Golden Trio, before Ron burst out laughing. Hermione glared at him.

"Was it Colin Creevey?" she asked Harry kindly and Harry nodded. Hermione sighed.

"Well Harry, I'm not really surprised." She said with a sad voice. "What did you say?"

"I…told him that I wasn't gay." Harry told her and Hermione gave him a bemused smile.

"Well, you could have done worse." She told him with amusement and Ron shook his head.

"You ought to ask someone else to the ball, before it's too late." Ron suggested and Harry stood up.

"You're right." And with that statement, Harry stood up and walked off leaving a puzzled Ron behind.

"Where's Harry off to?" he asked and Hermione raised an eyebrow.

"He's off to ask Cho to the ball." She answered rolling her eyes. And as it so happens, Hermione was right.

Harry found Cho with a group of her giggling friends.

"Um, Cho, can I have a word please? In private?" he asked. Cho looked at him curiously, but she followed him into an empty classroom. Behind her, her friends were giggling away, much to Harry's chagrin.

"Um…Cho, I was wondering…"
