Summary: Robin, Marian, proposals and stone. One-shot.

Author's Note: Written two years ago for the prompt "years".
The first time Robin proposed to Marian, he was nervous. So much so that he accidentally insulted her.
"I want to ask you something, but I don't know how you will react," he said. "Sometimes you seem so stony I cannot guess at what you think or how you feel."
Before she could open her mouth to berate him, he rushed on to tell her how much he cared for her, and ended with the proposal.
She stared at him blankly for several seconds, but her hard expression melted into a smile and a "Yes".
He left for war a few months later. As his absence stretched from weeks to months to years, Marian realised the wisdom in his clumsy words - and she let herself turn to granite.
