Disclaimer: I do not own Tomb Raider or any material related to Core, Eidos, or Crystal Dynamics in any way or form.

Note: Long story short: I love Tomb Raider. Loved it as a kid and after a 13 year absence, I still love it. Never occurred to me that Lara had a love-interest, even during the movies, but here's for all my KTEB sisters and brothers out there.

This is a companion fic to a XNALara render I made on deviantart under the same title and author/artist as here.

It's been three years since that nasty business in Prague. Three years since Werner's death.

Three years since I last saw Kurtis Trent.

I don't know whether he made it out alive after fighting Boaz, but if how his trinket acted was any indication, he was alive after I found that pool of blood. What little time I was able to spend looking before the police were all over the Strahov proved fruitless: I couldn't find him anywhere. There wasn't a trail of blood like I'd thought, so I assumed he'd lived.

I haven't made written note of it before, but the disc glows briefly every so often, always in my presence. It's almost as though it's reacting to something, though what, I couldn't begin to comprehend. Perhaps that's something only Kurtis could explain.

Either way, rare is the occasion when I dare pick it up and hold it. The last few times it's awoken, the blades nearly chopped my wrists off, and I don't fancy raiding any more tombs lacking a hand.

Strangely enough, when it woke today in the library, it tried to jump out of my hand out the window. Alister nearly had a heart attack when he saw it. Hm. Perhaps I ought to hire a nurse and build a small clinic in the manor since he's so prone to panicking.

As much as I hate to admit it, I find myself missing Kurtis' presence. His humour and wit were sharp enough to match mine, something I've rarely found in anyone, particularly those Americans I've come across. And I would be lying to myself if I said I didn't find him attractive (good God, I feel like a teenaged schoolgirl writing that).

Personal feelings aside, I feel that this disc requires more study. Perhaps Zip or Alister may be able to pull something up about it. In the meantime, I'll try to compile any information regarding Kurtis and the Lux Veritatis. I feel as though business with them isn't quite finished yet...

-.-.-.-

Kurtis looked up from the journal lying open on Lara's bed, a smile tugging at his lips. He chuckled softly as he watched her sleep, eyeing his Chirugai nestled on top of the comforter beside Lara. Her body was curled so closely around it the blades would cut her if he tried to call it so he leaned against the bedpost and sighed, gazing over Lara's sleeping form before he turned to leave, deciding to sleep on one of the couches in the entrance hall until morning arrived.

Just before he shut the door, he turned back, a tender look on his face.

"I missed you too, Lara."
