Zack and Lisa entered the Bayside halls hand in hand. They whispered back and forth to each other until they reached Lisa's locker where Zack leaned waiting for her to open it.
"This must be a record for Lisa," Jessie observed. "She and Zack have been seeing each other now for what? A week?"
"Yeah, this must be serious," Slater nodded.
As Lisa got out her books, Zack took them from her hands and carried them for her to the door of her class which was right across the hall. He opened the door, held it as Lisa passed through, and smiled as he waved goodbye.
"Wow, preppie. You're going all out with the chivalry lately," Slater stated, "You're making me look bad," he scrunched his brow in disapproval as Zack slowly joined the pair.
"Oh, please, don't use Zack as the reason you look bad," Jessie chided, shaking her head with a smirk. "You never were the chivalrous type."
"Only because you'd call me a macho pig if I attempted to hold a door open for you!" Slater defended.
Jessie rolled her eyes and faced Zack. Usually, he had some kind of comment or jest to throw in, but today he was silent and oblivious to what was going on. "Why are you so quiet, Zack?"
"Hmm? Oh, I was just thinking," he trailed off.
"About Lisa?" Jessie cooed.
Zack chuckled, then, shuffled on his feet. "Jessie, don't you have a yearbook to work on?"
Jessie threw up her hands in defeat, "I'm going! I'm going!"
Zack smiled and patted her on the shoulder as she walked away. Then, he leaned up against the lockers still in a trance.
"Boy, are you lovesick," Slater said shaking his head disapprovingly. "If you can break away from your dream world long enough, we need to get to gym." He waved a hand in front of Zack's face.
Zack jumped, startled. "Yeah, let's go," he replied. Then, he opened the locker behind him and began getting out some gym clothes.
"I don't think you have the legs for those shorts, Preppie," Slater pointed out.
Zack gave him a puzzled look.
"Those are Jessie's," Slater explained as he yanked them out of Zack's hand and threw them back into the locker. "I think your heart is beating so hard the blood must be flooding your brain!"
Zack smiled sheepishly and shrugged.
"You've got your clothes in your gym locker. Now, let's move." Slater began walking toward the gym and Zack trailed behind, but when Slater took a left for the gym, Zack began heading right. "Zack, the gym's this way!" he pointed, mildy annoyed.
"Right," Zack answered as he changed paths. "I knew that," he forced a chuckle.
At lunch, Slater was inhaling two double cheeseburgers at the end of the gang's usual booth. Kelly played with her onion rings on his right, Jessie sipped her soda on his left, while Screech, who was next to Jessie, was slurping on a chocolate malt.
"Have you guys noticed how strange Zack has been acting lately?" Jessie asked Kelly, Slater, and Screech as she munched on a fry.
"You mean, besides the fact that he is following Lisa around like a lost puppy?" Screech squeaked before returning to his malt.
"No, that's not strange. He's doing that because he likes her," Slater explained stuffing one of Jessie's fries in his mouth.
"Well, everyone thought that was strange when it was me!"
"That's because you're strange," Jessie stated matter of factly, lightly smacking Slater's hand as he reached for another one of her fries.
"Some people call it charm, Momma," Screech told her leaning toward her raising his brows up and down. Jessie leaned away making a disgusted face.
Slater continued, "He has been really weird lately. Besides trying to wear your gym shorts, Jessie, and forgetting where the gym is, he missed every single shot in gym class. Even his lay ups!" Slater reported continuing the conversation.
"Wow," Kelly remarked, then shrugged her shoulders. "I haven't seen Zack enough to notice anything strange."
"Well, I have," Jessie jumped in, "Today in algebra, he actually raised his hand and answered questions in class." She paused, as she leaned in and lowered her voice giving her story a dramatic effect, "The strangest part is the answers were all right!"
Slater and Screech leaned back in surprise. "Something's definitely wrong," Slater concluded.
"You guys, it may be a little odd, but I wouldn't say it's wrong!" Kelly reasoned. "I mean, being with Lisa might have changed him for the better!"
"Yeah, Kelly's right. Maybe we are over analyzing," Jessie laughed, "It's probably just love." She waved her hand in attempt to dismiss the notion.
Kelly nodded in agreement, but Slater shrugged hesitant to dismiss the idea that his friend wasn't losing his mind after all he'd seen this morning. He had seen Zack in love before, he thought anyway, and he never acted so out of it.
"I guess," he finally muttered. Then, the friends quietly finished their lunch deep in thought.
"Hey, Zack," Kelly smiled as she approached him at his locker.
"Hey, Kel," greeted with his head still stuck in his locker, "Where is that English book?" he mumbled.
"You're looking for a book?" she asked forgetting for a moment what she had come to talk about
"Yep," Zack replied.
"As in, a book for class?" she tilted her head even more surprised.
"Yep. So, what's up?"
Kelly shoved her hands into her short's pockets,"I just thought I'd see how everything was going since I hadn't seen you in a while," she swayed back on forth from heel to toes as she spoke.
"Just fine," Zack replied. His voice slightly echoed from inside his locker.
Zack jumped banging his head on the shelf of his locker. He rubbed it as he spun around to face her revealing a sheepish bit her lip trying to hide a laugh.
"Lisa, is fine, just fine. Why do you ask?"
"Well, because I haven't seen her in a while and since she's your girlfriend, I just thought—"
"Well, thanks for checking up on us, Kelly. Is that the bell? Gotta run! See ya!" he scurried quickly down the hall disappearing into a classroom.
Kelly wrinkled her brow and shook her head, "Yeah," she said matter of factly, "He's lost it."
