Author's Notes: Another entry for Asking Me Where My Love Grows' First Kiss Challenge.

It's short because I couldn't stand to write about Peter for much longer than this.

Why Peter had decided to attend a New Year's party was beyond him.

He supposed the only possibility was that when he had accepted the invitation, he had forgotten about the kissing business. That was the only way he could possibly have thought that it would be a good idea.

The party must have had dozens of people. Surely one of them would be willing to give him a New Year's kiss?

No, of course they wouldn't. Everyone was pairing off already, the prettiest girls going straight to Sirius and James, the ones everyone knew were nice flocking to Remus, leaving Peter alone. What a surprise.

There was less than a minute to midnight, and Peter found himself edging towards a corner where he could stand unobtrusively until the kissing was over. His eyes were fixed on the clock, counting down the seconds to midnight. Tick, tock, tick, tock.

At last, the minute hand twitched into place, standing straight up, and there was a great outburst of celebratory noise from the guests. Peter was just turning away, intending to pretend to suddenly find some vase or painting extremely interesting, when he felt someone grab him by the shoulders and turn him around, and a pair of soft, warm lips press against his. His eyes flew open in shock, but he was blinded by a mass of red hair.

After a second, the girl pulled back, and Peter was positively stunned to see Lily Evans, James's on-again-off-again girlfriend, and one of the prettiest girls in the year. Peter's mind couldn't even process what had just happened.

"Happy New Year, Peter!" she sang, then skipped off to kiss someone else.

She was gone by the time Peter finally registered.

Lily Evans just kissed me.

And suddenly he found himself smiling as happily as anyone else at the party.
