"They want to scare me?" Cat's hand flies to her mouth. "Why would they want to do that?"
"It's nothing personal, Cat," Robbie tries to explain, biting his lip to keep from laughing. "They just thought it'd be fun. Now, if you stay with me, it won't be as scary."
Her brown eyes fixate on him. "You can't just ask them not to?"
Barking a laugh, Robbie says, "Yeah, like Jade's going to listen to me."
She frowns, slipping her fingers through his and glancing around at the graveyard around them. smiling slightly in satisfaction, he takes in her warmth before releasing her hand and wrapping an arm tightly around her shoulders.
"Where's Rex?" she asks as they begin to walk.
"I left him at home," Robbie laughs. "He was tired."
"It is midnight," Cat snuggles closer into his shoulder. "I like the night. It's pretty."
"You're pretty," he retorts, tweaking a strand of her red velvet hair with one hand. She looks over at him, a huge smile on her face.
"You really think so?" she asks brightly, her face lighting up.
"Yeah," he says, and suddenly he's overcome with the urge to kiss her. So, for once, he follows his heart and does so.
She kisses him back for a second, and of course, Jade, Beck, Tori, and André pick that moment to jump out of the bushes. The two of them jerk apart, screaming, but warmth and adrenaline still course through his veins. As they all collapse into a pile of laughter, he feels his hand twine with Cat's again, and all he can think of is how great he feels for once.
Maybe he won't be scared from now on.
