This is just how I think the Bree situation should have been dealt with. In Bella's POV.

"Of course." Carlisle answered. "We would certainly be prepared to take responsibility for Bree."

Jane's expression was torn between amusement and disbelief.

"We don't make exceptions." She said. "And we don't give second chances. It's bad for our reputation."

"I'm sure our kind will find it most justified if you spared the life of an innocent. We will be sure to spread the word that you have allowed this young one to choose another way of life, since she had no idea there was another way to live." Carlisle said, clearly not wanting to have Bree killed because of what Victoria did.

"He has a point." Felix pointed out in a low voice.

Jane still had an exasperated look on her face, but she seemed to have decided not to kill Bree. "Do what you wish with the girl. We will have to inform our masters, of course." Her eyes suddenly flickered towards me. "Which reminds me. Caius will be so interested to hear you are still human, Bella. Perhaps he'll decide to visit."

"A date has been set for the transformation. Maybe you should prepare for a visit from us." Alice said, and Jane's malicious smile faded a little. She turned to Carlisle.

"It was nice to meet you Carlisle—I thought Aro was exaggerating. Well, until we meet again..."

Carlisle nodded, and I watched, more than a little relieved, as the members of the Volturi left the clearing.

Jaspers eyes were on Bree again, his expression more than disapproving. Bree glanced at me again, and dug her hands into the ground, gritting her teeth.

"Come, child. We have much to explain to you." Carlisle said in a very soothing tone. He held out a hand to her.
