"This is Jaffa # 327 down in the room with all of the strange symbols that aren't all over the rest of this place. One of the boxes started spewing smoke. I opened it and put the fire out, but the square thingy is all black and crispy and the spinny thingy isn't spinning. I think that might be bad, so I reported it to my superior who told me to report it to you just in case."

"Huh? Can you please be more specific? There are nearly two-thousand objects on this vessel that can be categorized as "boxes" and more than three hundred of them contain square and/or rotating objects, fifty of which are in rooms with "strange symbols that aren't found elsewhere on the ship"."

"This is Jaffa # 626 down in the room with all of the flying things. One of the flying things won't start, and it keeps making a weird Whirwhirwhir Thunk Thunk noise each time we try."

"That's because it's broken."

"This is Ra, your petition has reached me. Please state your request."

"This is Jaffa # 425 in that place where we eat, I pushed the button for food, and it didn't appear.

"AAAAAAAARRRRGGGH!"

"This is Ra, your petition has reached me. Please state your request."

"This is Jaffa #441 I'm in that hallway with that statue thing that looks like a bird, and I pushed the thingy that makes the door open 27 times and it hasn't opened."

"That is it! I'm not dealing with this anymore! You! Go gather a group of the more intelligent looking of those creatures and train them to fix these things themselves!"

10,000 Years Later:

"Maintenance department." Said the slightly bored Jaffa who was leaned back in his seat with his feet propped up on the console, after he slapped his hand down on the comm button when a call came in after three hours of mind-numbing silence.

"This is Jaffa # 127 down in the engine room. There seems to be some sort of problem with the drive. One of the control panels started spewing smoke. After putting the fire out, I noticed that that square thing in the upper right seemed to be the source of the fire, and that thing that spins around and around isn't moving."

"Would that be the little square thing, or the big square thing?" The Jaffa asked with a sigh. The foot soldiers were never very specific, and it would be a complete waste of his time if he ended up going all the way to the engine room with the wrong part.

"Maintenence department." The Jaffa said an hour later when he received another call.

"This is Jaffa # 344. I'm down in the hangar. One of the Deathgliders refuses to start, and keeps making a Whirwhirwhir Thunk Thunk noise every time we try."

"Hold tight, I'll be down there to look at it in a few." The Jaffa said as he finished writing up his report on the malfunctioning control panel in the engine room.

"Maintenance department." The Jaffa said as he went back to cleaning the grease out from under his fingernails three hours later.

"This is Jaffa #575 down in the cafeteria. The food dispenser appears to be broken."

"I'll be right down." the Jaffa said as he set aside the tool he had been using to dig the grease out from under the nail of his left ring finger.

"Maintenance Department." The Jaffa said an hour an a half later as he set the remains of his dinner aside.

"This is Jaffa #624 down on level 27. The door in the right-hand corridor leading to the sleeping quarters appears to be stuck."

"I'll be right on it."
