He awoke the the morning sunlight, creeping through the blinds up on the window. Steve's eyes adjusted to his surroundings, taking in the bare walls of the room, and finally noticed someone laying next to him. She stirred in her sleep, and Steve slightly smiled.
Steve brushed off a lock of her hair from her face, and she smiled. She slowly opened her eyes, and quietly laughed.
"What are you doing?" she asked, while stifling a small yawn.
Steve chuckled to himself, and propped his head up with his hand.
"Just memorized by your beauty, that's all..."
"Oh, stop it, you have a way with words you know. Make any girl swoon..." she pushed her body up to sit upright, and looked at Steve.
"You won't leave again, right?" she asked, her voice tinged with a bit of sadness.
"Of course not, I will never leave you, Peggy..." his eyes filled with concern, grabbing her hand and squeezing it a bit.
"You made a promise to meet me, remember that." she smiled again, her eyes slightly getting watery.
"I know you don't like broken promises, I'll be there..." he took her face in his left palm, wiping away the stray tears on her cheeks.
Peggy leaned in, and gave a small kiss on his forehead. Steve felt the few stray tears on his forehead, and she got up from the bed, slowly letting go of his hand.
"See you there, Cap..." she nodded her head and looked towards the door
"I'll see you there for our date, Peggy.." Steve replied
Peggy reached for the door, before turning the knob to open, she looked over her shoulder, a slight grin.
"I know, I know...I love you.."
Peggy opened the door, and a blinding white light, like pure snow, engulfed the entire room.
Steve blanked out, slowly coming to.
He slowly opened his eyes, blinking out of the fatigue of the dream.
"I love you too, Peggy..." he whispered, feeling the tears hit his mouth
A salty and brash reminder of the cold truth.
