My first Santana fic! Enjoy!

I don't own Glee or KT Tunstall

Nationals were two months away. This year, New Directions had decided to actually plan ahead and pick their set-list early.

"We both know I have the stronger vocals for a solo!" Rachel insisted.

"Hell to the no, you always get the solo! And I'm so much better than you!" Mercedes argued.

"Guys! Listen up!" Mr. Schue stopped the bickering and stood in the front of the room. "We're going to audition for the solo. Santana? You did great with Valerie, why don't you go first."

She rolled her eyes from where she was sitting by Brittany and strode to the front of the choir room, motioning for Brittany and Tina to follow her. On the outside no one could tell she was actually nervous. Though she would never admit it, she would love to have the solo.

"Two, three, four" Santana counted off.

"woo-hoo" Tina and Brittany started singing while Brad adapted the guitar harmonies to the piano. "woo-hoo"

Santana looked over at Brittany who smiled encouragingly, and she started her song.

Well my heart knows me better than I know myself
So I'm gonna let it do all the talking.
I came across a place in the middle of nowhere
With a big black horse and a cherry tree.

Some of the glee club members were getting into it, Artie and Mike clapping along and lightly dancing in their chairs.

I felt a little fear upon my back
I said "Don't look back, just keep on walking."
When the big black horse said, "Look this way"
Said, "Hey, lady, will you marry me?"

Santana continued the song with the perfect amount of rasp in her voice. Rachel looked jealous since she never could get her voice to do that. Santana smirked at her.

But I said no, no, no, no-no-no
I said no, no, you're not the one for me
No, no, no, no-no-no
I said no, no, you're not the one for me

Santana strutted through the stands in the room, ruffling some of the guys' hair. Kurt gave her a death glare when she approached his hair.

And my heart hit a problem, in the early hours,
So I stopped it dead for a beat or two.
But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done that,
And it won't forgive me after all these years

Mr. Schue continued to rock out on the side of the room, and almost everyone was getting into her song.

So I sent it to a place in the middle of nowhere
With a big black horse and a cherry tree.
Now it won't come back, 'cause it's oh so happy
And now I've got a hole for the world to see

She kept singing, spinning around the room and dancing softly.

And it said no, no, no, no-no-no
Said no, no, you're not the one for me
No, no, no, no-no-no
Said no, no, you're not the one for me

Not the one for me

She returned to the front of the room between Brittany and Tina. "Said no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you're not the one for me," for each of the no's she pointed at a different member of the glee club.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
You're not the one for me

She slyly looked over at Brittany. She and a few of the other students had noticed Santana had never pointed at Brittany. Brittany smiled at her again.

Big black horse and a cherry tree
I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me

Santana continued the last verse much closer to Brittany, and finished with a hand on her shoulder.

Big black horse and a cherry tree
I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me

The New Directions clapped and Santana smirked triumphantly as she took her seat again, hand in hand with Brittany.
